Can someone help me here?
I don't have enough medical knowledge to be pushy on this.

DP got severe toothache a few days ago, hasn't been able to sleep. It's been pretty bad.
Now all of a sudden about 10 minutes ago he's started throwing up blood. He's got pains in his neck and head that worsen when he lies down.

What's the best course of action? None of this sounds right to me yet he's adamant he doesn't need to see a doctor etc Angry

Vomiting blood isn’t always an emergency. It depends on the amount, the colour etc.

However, if he has honestly taken that amount of pain relief I would have attended A&E. I work for the 111 although in Scotland and the dental assessment would have been pushed aside to deal with that issue first.

He could try orajel to help with the pain. Might help for a little while. Hope he gets sorted soon

GrandmaSharksDentures · 09/11/2019 23:35

@user275 what is "an average amount of blood"?

BlueCornsihPixie · 10/11/2019 12:37

Hi I just wanted to say to all the PP please don't go to A&E with toothache.

It's completely inappropriate. Massive facial swelling yes, but not toothache. Toothache is for the dentist.

If the vommiting blood happens again, yes A&E. I wouldn't even mention the toothache because it's irrelevant. Often Drs will pass off things as tooth related when it's not, you would be going to A&E because he was vommiting blood and overdosed on ibuprofen. The toothache is only relevant as a reason why he overdosed on ibuprofen.

Reachedsohigh · 10/11/2019 15:43

@BlueCornsihPixie I can't see anybody who advised a&e because of the toothache.

spanglydangly · 10/11/2019 15:50

I wouldn't even mention the toothache because it's irrelevant.

It really isn't, the reason for the overdose was excruciating pain because for the toothache. Surely stronger painkillers administered would assist with that?

OctoberLovers · 10/11/2019 15:59

Why have so many people got an issue with A&E.

This man has taken an overdose and is vomiting blood...

That is 100% A&E worthy!

BlueCornsihPixie · 10/11/2019 16:46

reached people saying toothache can turn septic etc. There's a lot of posts early on in the thread.

I absolutely think OPs DH should have gone to A&E in this case. The reason I say don't mention it is a lot of the time the A&E Drs will see toothache and ignore all other symptoms. Trust me when I say the amount of shit A&E Drs can put down to teeth and just ignore. Its better to go in and just say "I have taken an ibuprofen overdose and am vommiting blood" get that sorted before mentioning toothache
