Can someone help me here?
I don't have enough medical knowledge to be pushy on this.

DP got severe toothache a few days ago, hasn't been able to sleep. It's been pretty bad.
Now all of a sudden about 10 minutes ago he's started throwing up blood. He's got pains in his neck and head that worsen when he lies down.

What's the best course of action? None of this sounds right to me yet he's adamant he doesn't need to see a doctor etc Angry

OP posts:

A&E. Not only has he overdosed significantly but he is symptomatic because of it. There is no way a clinical advisor would tell you differently and you're just delaying care waiting for a call back.

Quartz2208 · 09/11/2019 09:22

Cross posted with the number of ibuprofen

He needs medical attention now it’s double the dose he has taken and done some damage to his stomach

EleanorReally · 09/11/2019 09:22

20 over how long op?
and on an empty stomach?
hope he can get some medication to help his stomach

NameChangeForThis555 · 09/11/2019 09:23

OP, did you tell out of hours /111 “my DH has taken about 20 ibuprofens and is now vomiting blood”? I know that they are utterly useless, but if you told them exactly that, even I am surprised!

EleanorReally · 09/11/2019 09:24

dont blame the op, her dh is his own person

notapizzaeater · 09/11/2019 09:25

He really does need to be seen in A and E - that's an insane amount

sparklefarts · 09/11/2019 09:29

Jesus fucking Christ. Someone tells you they've taken 20 ibuprofen and they're throwing up blood you don't post on fucking Mumsnet, you call 999.

Now op if you haven't already

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 09/11/2019 09:29

Your DH is a moron who needs to get his arse to A&E.

foamrolling · 09/11/2019 09:29

I'm not blaming her, I meant a general 'you', more of a 'one is delaying care' I suppose. Hopefully he'll listen to her. She's clearly desperate for him to get some help.

Fairylea · 09/11/2019 09:33

Shock Your dh is an idiot. Taking 20 ibuprofen is ridiculous. He needs to get to A and E.

PinkDaffodil2 · 09/11/2019 09:35

Get him to A&E ASAP, 999 ambulance if he seems too unwell for that - grab a bag as he might need to be in overnight.
Needs investigating to see if his ibuprofen overdose has given him a stomach bleed - can get much worse very quickly and lose a silly amount of blood. Will need proper assessment and potentially monitoring, IV medications, camera test to see damage to stomach / stop further bleeds.

MintyMabel · 09/11/2019 09:38

Really?

You know he had taken an overdose but you aren't sure what to do?

welshweasel · 09/11/2019 09:40

Just take him to A&E. OOH will send him there anyway with that history.

COI : doctor specialising in stomach issues!

Itsallpetetong · 09/11/2019 09:40

Do you have the packets there so you are able to confirm how many he has actually taken? They will need to know

pudcat · 09/11/2019 09:41

Are you sure he is asleep and not unconscious. Can you rouse him? He needs an ambulance.

welshweasel · 09/11/2019 09:42

He doesn’t need an ambulance. Just grow a pair, kick him out of bed and into the car and drive him to A&E.

eeyore228 · 09/11/2019 09:43

Take him to A&E. Leave 111 out of the equation they do their best but essentially rely on accurate info and a script. Don’t bother with any more posts just tell him you want to be certain there’s nothing serious and you’re worried...this is the only way you will be able to remain calm if he gets himself checked out.

FavouriteSoul · 09/11/2019 09:49

Stop messing about on Mumsnet and get him to A&E. This could be a life threatening situation.

EwwwwGrossWTF · 09/11/2019 09:51

OP my husband nearly died after taking too much ibuprofen when he had toothache.

He started turning yellow and was seriously unwell.
He needs to be seen and his liver needs to be checked.

My husband hasn't touched those painkillers since. Scared the heebie jeebies out of him.

foamrolling · 09/11/2019 09:54

Can I just point out that the op hasn't posted for about 40 minutes now so she can't really be accused of messing about on mumsnet. She may well be on her way to A&E now 🤞

MollyHuaCha · 09/11/2019 10:00

Hope he's seen by a dr soon.

Lunafortheloveogod · 09/11/2019 10:03

20 ibuprofen! A&E, never mind the tooth until the idiots overdosing’s sorted out. Grab him a pair of reading glasses on the way home too the boxes all have the dose, timing and maximum per day too. Make sure he tells you if he’s had anything else too.. paracetamol, codiene etc

spanglydangly · 09/11/2019 10:03

I hope all is ok OP

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/11/2019 10:03

I think it's unhelpful to call the DH a moron. Dental pain can be a horrific and many people do take far more analgesia than is safe just to try to get some relief. Compounded by the appalling lack of provision for emergency dental services this is a not uncommon problem.

I hope OP and her DH are on their way to A&E now.

Pieceofpurplesky · 09/11/2019 10:15

I hope they have gone to a and e
