To ask what your baby is wearing today?

DC is 4,5 months and my first. I got called out today at nursery because DC was not dressed warm enough to go outside (they were quite unpleasant about it, so I felt awful). DC was wearing a long-sleeved bodysuit, a long-sleeved t-shirt, joggers and socks. Outerwear consisted of a lined wool cardigan with a hood and a blanket I knitted.

I'm usually warm and haven't taken out my winter coat yet this year, so I suppose I cannot trust my own judgement. So tell me, is what DC wore unreasonable in this weather (it was about 7 degrees, dry and sunny here today)?

4 years and 5 months? I'd have them in a jacket too. Maybe not a thick winter coat, but a fleece or similar.

Newmumatlast · 08/11/2019 20:59

My 3 week old baby was dressed similarly today save for additionally a hat for when we were outside. I was told general rule is an extra layer to you. I usually use the blanket outside and a thick lined woollen cardigan/jacket which I got from TU. It isnt a coat but in my view is thicker than some coats. Always a bodysuit and then a top, trousers and socks or daytime baby gro. Today it was actually a short sleeve bodysuit under the top as it really wasnt that bad out. In winter (or when it is much colder) we use a snow suit over that outside

modgepodge · 08/11/2019 21:00

My baby was in a short sleeve body suit, long sleeve T-shirt, leggings and socks, with a cardigan which I put on outside, she was also in her buggy which has a fleecy warm thing so it’s like shes under a duvet. I also put a hat on her outside. We weren’t out long (car to coffee shop, less than 5 minutes) or I’d have added a waterproof coat too.

So I think what your son was in was fine. Maybe just send lots of layers of outer wear in his bag so they can layer him up if they think it necessary? A pram suit perhaps. And maybe add a hat?

Whattodoabout · 08/11/2019 21:01

Snowsuit is for literally freezing weather when it probably is snowing or icy outside. Overheating can be extremely dangerous for babies so it’s best not to wrap them up too much.

My DS just turned one and he wore similar today under his footmuff so is always snug.

WilsonandNoodles · 08/11/2019 21:02

7 month old was in a short sleeved vest, joggers, long sleeved t shirt, fleece lined-demin jacket, socks and wooly hat and blanket when outside. The outfit sounds fine but I would have included a hat (my ds doesn't have hair though!).

bridgetreilly · 08/11/2019 21:04

I'd have expected a jumper and a coat, so if the cardigan counts as the coat, I'd still have expected another layer that was more substantial than the t-shirts underneath. But what you had doesn't sound massively unreasonable, tbh.

Sexnotgender · 08/11/2019 21:04

9 month old had:
Short sleeved bodysuit
Long sleeved T-shirt
Woollen jumper
Thick joggers
Socks
Padded jacket
Woollen hat

tealandteal · 08/11/2019 21:07

4.5 months or 4 years 5 months? My DS is 2 and goes to nursery in a long sleeve tshirt and jumper. He takes a coat as well but not a super thick one. There is a hat in his bag. What your DC had seems fine to me? Also were all the staff outside at the same time? He could have gone back in if particularly cold surely.

mum11970 · 08/11/2019 21:08

Trousers, polo shirt and school sweatshirt. Think he had a pack a Mack kind of coat in the bottom of his bag. He’s 14 years and 9 months.

Froggledoggleoggle · 08/11/2019 21:09

4 month old:
2 short vests
Long sleeve tee-shirt
Jeans
Fleece lined snow suit and a thick blanket

It was 6 degrees where I am. He gets very warm very fast like me, so I'm still working the one more layer than me thought process.

He's in bed now and is wearing a vest, sleepsuit, he's in a grobag and has a blanket over the top, his room is 20 degrees.

lotsofoysters · 08/11/2019 21:09

Don't feel bad. My 6 month old runs hot, she's like a radiator. Today she just wore a short sleeved bodysuit, a sleepsuit, a thin cotton hat, and a blanket in the pram.

OrangeWoman · 08/11/2019 21:10

6.5 month had short sleeved bodysuit, long sleeved body suit, jogging bottoms, socks outer wear was a pram suit and hat and tucked in her footmuff.

lotsofoysters · 08/11/2019 21:11

He's in bed now and is wearing a vest, sleepsuit, he's in a grobag and has a blanket over the top, his room is 20 degrees.

Mine is just in a long sleeve tshirt and bare legged in a gro bag, in an 18 degree room. And she's boiling! Goes to show they're all different.

Swisskit · 08/11/2019 21:12

A black hoodie, jeans and trainers.

My baby is 17 though Grin

MrsBlobbys · 08/11/2019 21:14

Baby is 6 months

Vest
Leggings with zebras on Grin
Long sleeved top
Cardigan
Socks
I took a coat out but he’s in the car so can’t put it on

Don’t feel bad Op. I do it sometimes because I don’t feel the cold so much I simply don’t think of putting layer after layer on. It’ll be fine

marriageisafullonmerger · 08/11/2019 21:16

It was 1 degree here today - snowsuit, hat and mittens needed.

My 3yo was wearing: vest, long sleeved t-shirt, hoody & warm coat plus hat.

JenniR29 · 08/11/2019 21:16

12 week old: short sleeved babygrow, full babygrow, booties, coat, woolly hat. Was in a sling so sharing my body heat.

18 month old: short body suit, long sleeved t shirt, jeans, socks, shoes, hoody, waterproof mac, woolly hat (which she wore for approximately 3 minutes before pulling it off and refused point blank to wear it again!).

joffreyscoffees · 08/11/2019 21:17

DD 16 months had leggings, vest, t-shirt and knitted cardigan on, also sent with her winter coat.

I've just decided to buy a cheap duplicate coat and hat, gloves etc. That just stay at nursery.

marriageisafullonmerger · 08/11/2019 21:17

Remember the baby will be sitting still so can't warm up outside. Presumably when you're outside you're walking? You wouldn't sit outside in the winter for any length of time without a coat.

DowntownAbby · 08/11/2019 21:18

I got called out today at nursery...

Que?

marriageisafullonmerger · 08/11/2019 21:18

Just spotted it was 7 degrees - still think a coat was needed and hat

Lauren83 · 08/11/2019 21:18

4.5 month old and he had on, socks, sleeveless vest, joggers, long sleeve top and a hoody, 21 month old dressed the same but with shoes, we weren't out long though only supermarket trip

LailaDay · 08/11/2019 21:19

He's 4 months, almost 5 months. They often go to a nearby park with the kids, and now said they wouldn't be able to because it would be too cold for him without a proper coat / pram suit. I definitely will make sure he has them next time, but I honestly didn't think he was so underdressed.

CoodleMoodle · 08/11/2019 21:20

16 month old was wearing a short sleeve vest, short sleeve shirt, joggers, jumper and socks. When we went out he was wearing his shoes (trainer type) and a coat. He did have his hat and gloves on when it got really chilly. I'm starting to think about swapping him to long sleeves very soon.

(DD is 5 and was wearing her school uniform. She did change into her boots when we went out afterwards because her feet were cold.)

Newmumatlast · 08/11/2019 21:24

Should've said for context I've just seen your OP said it was 7 degrees there. It was warmer where we are - not sure how much but its 9 degrees even now outside. Probably would've added a thin coat depending on the thickness of the cardigan you mentioned as some are like coats, like the one I have, and definitely hat and mittens. I wouldn't worry it's done now and you can pack extra outer layers in his changing bag in future to cover all bases. I have a spare blanket and clothes in mine all the time.
