To ask what your baby is wearing today?

DC is 4,5 months and my first. I got called out today at nursery because DC was not dressed warm enough to go outside (they were quite unpleasant about it, so I felt awful). DC was wearing a long-sleeved bodysuit, a long-sleeved t-shirt, joggers and socks. Outerwear consisted of a lined wool cardigan with a hood and a blanket I knitted.

I'm usually warm and haven't taken out my winter coat yet this year, so I suppose I cannot trust my own judgement. So tell me, is what DC wore unreasonable in this weather (it was about 7 degrees, dry and sunny here today)?

It was 8 degrees here. My DS wore a sleeveless vest, fleecy long sleeved top, thick hoodie, joggers, knee length socks and shoes. That was in the pushchair though - he went out in the pram before that with no hoodie, under a cosy toes, with a hat.

Nurseries seem to chop and change opinions. Mine has been going 4 weeks and isn't walking yet but I've been requested to send a full waterproof suit, gloves (babies don't exactly wear willingly), hat (fair enough), shoes (didn't have any yet so had to buy some), and a waterproof coat. I'm expecting a wellies request next whoch I'm not buying til he can walk!

Nursery just want a proper coat or pram suit they can bung on.

The staff haven't got capacity to be fannying about with 3 different layers. It's what you would do at home but it's not reasonable to expect nursery to do it. They just need to be able to bung on a good thick wind proof outer layer when they go outside that can be taken off when they come back in. Don't forget nursery rooms are usually kept hotter than you would keep your own house!

I've also been told off for DC not having a suitable coat, I was confused but turns out it was because I sent him in a fleecy hoody instead of a proper coat. I just asked the staff what they meant until they told me what they needed. Sometimes asking a stupid question is the best way!

My seventh month old is in vest and babygro inside, cardigan on colder days, and coat for outside. Worn snowsuit twice so far this year.
Nursery needs to always have weather-appropriate clothing available as it can change during the day.

Short sleeve bodysuit, long sleeve top, jogging bottoms and if we go out a thick woollen cardigan. I would only put a big snowsuit or thick coat on it it’s a lot colder as he is quite a hot baby and would overheat if not. I don’t think what you dressed your baby in is unreasonable at all.

My 7 month old typically wears
Short sleeved vest
Long sleeved t-shirt
Cardigan/jumper
Trousers
Socks
Hat and coat if super cold
Blanket over legs in pram underneath the pram cover thing
He runs really hot though, as does DH. DH always tells me I'm over dressing him when DH Is in shorts and t'shirt and I'm in trousers, top, jumper, coat, scarf etc.
At night he sleeps in a long sleeved vest and 1.5tog sleeping bag. The 2.5tog makes him sweat!! Room is 20c, just shows how different they all are!

Keeps the core warm. Core heat is what's important.

But if they're overdressed around the core they sweat which can then end up making them cold around the core. Though the temps in the UK don't get that low, the dampness makes it feel colder than it is - I always feel the chill when I come over even though winters are much colder where I am.
