Help me induce labour before tomorrow’s induction!

Hi everyone,

I know, totally BU for posting here but I’m getting super tired at almost 42 weeks pregnant and looking for any tips that might help me induce labour before my scheduled induction tomorrow!!!

I’ve had one vaginal delivery with DC1 and one C-section with DC2. I’m aiming for a VBAC this time but I’ve almost hit my limit for being overdue!

The only sign of labour I’ve had is the mucus plug bleeding (sorry for TMI) and very irregular minor contractions.

Wise ladies of Mumsnet, what did you do to help induce labour and get those pesky babies out???

No idea but watching with interest. I have GD so I'm booked in tomorrow for induction on my due date! I've eaten spicy food, bounced on yoga ball, eaten pineapple, plenty of nipple stimulation, sex and had what feels like a million baths! And nothing! I cant drink raspberry leaf tea as I have high blood pressure.

Good luck!

MsVestibule · 08/11/2019 16:24

Emergency acupuncture? I wish I'd tried it as an induction does sting a bit!

SillyChumpster · 08/11/2019 16:25

I was 3 days over with dd2 when i decided to try doing some flossing (the dance not my teeth Grin ) to try and get things going. My waters broke a few hours later and she was born the following day. It might have been a coincidence but I think getting my hips/pelvis etc moving helped! Good luck for the birth.

ShowOfHands · 08/11/2019 16:27

Nothing works so I suggest you do whatever the fuck makes you happy!

Streamside · 08/11/2019 16:31

Walking seemed to help trigger mine, just don't exhaust yourself

Thurmanmurman · 08/11/2019 16:40

I know it's probably the last think you feel like but have you tried sex? I did and went into labour the next day. May have been coincidence but I have read that it can work.

IHeartKingThistle · 08/11/2019 16:44

I'm a bit embarrassed about this, but a glass of champagne worked for me!

NotQuiteUsual · 08/11/2019 16:46

Get irrationally cross at something, that kicked off my labour first time. Or just chill as much as possible and await what tomorrow brings.

Induction really isn't bad at all. Mine was absolutely great and I rate it higher than spontaneous labour. It's all lovely and controlled and safe since you're monitored. There's no 'shall we go in yet?' since you're already there. I'd take induction again in a heartbeat, I enjoyed it so much I almost wish it took longer to get labour started.

Good luck tomorrow!! No matter what you'll be making positive steps toward meeting your baby Flowers

Walking up and down stairs and keep walking.

Side note; interested to see that you’re being induced for a VBAC, I don’t think this is common practice?

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 08/11/2019 16:50

Although I do somewhat agree with @ShowOfHands that if labour isn’t coming naturally sometimes there is a reason, so make sure you keep yourself comfy and get rested up.

BlackInk · 08/11/2019 16:52

I went into labour with both my DC the night before I was due to be induced at 42 weeks :)

With DS I had a really hot Thai curry that upset my tummy slightly. I think the cramps set off contractions.

With DD I went for quite a long, hilly walk. Contractions started as soon as I got home and sat down.

Having said that, I think if they're not ready they don't come!

Don't tire yourself out trying everything, just try to get a good night's sleep before tomorrow!

Hope all goes well :)

Itsallpetetong · 08/11/2019 17:08

Having our bathroom ripped out, meaning I had to spend a day squatting over a bucket to pee, brought DC 2 weeks early

Straycatstrut · 08/11/2019 17:17

A shot of balsamic vinegar did it for me. As soon as I had it I "knew" it was going to work, I went all sleepy and dreamy. My waters broke 2 hours later in the kitchen! I was 39w+6 & due to be induced the next day. I had a beautiful, easy natural labour.

Had a horrible induction with my first and really wanted to avoid that.

Straycatstrut · 08/11/2019 17:19

Post about it working here: community.babycenter.com/post/a35816419/balsamic_vinegar_to_induce...

Cherry4weans · 08/11/2019 17:21

Sex with 'ahem' follow through has worked twice for me. I tried EVERYTHING with my 3rd except this and it didn't work.

Nighttimenope · 08/11/2019 17:21

I’ve had 3 inductions and quite honestly, if the hormone gel/pessary whatever doesn’t get you going in the first stage, no amount of jiggering or spices is going to cut it. I’d enjoy my last few hours as much as is possible and hope the first stage of induction takes you the distance, and if it doesn’t you’ll know that nothing else would have!

Cocacolathanks · 08/11/2019 17:23

thanks for all the suggestions so far! With the exception of alcohol as I don’t drink, I will definitely try the ones I haven’t done yet. I did have sex AND a membrane sweep around 39 weeks but ever since the bleeding from the mucus plug, I haven’t wanted anything inside as I really don’t want an infection Envy

@HolyMilkBoobiesBatman
I was told I’d only be induced with a pessary because the drip would be too strong for me now that I’ve had a previous C-section (2 years ago). However, when I met the consultant in hospital, he told me I’d be fine on the drip too... bit confused/nervous tbh! Anyone else had any experience with this??

Also, my first DC was born at almost 42 weeks by induction and I was happy with it but this time I’m just a bit afraid because of the stories I hear about involving women whose C-section scars get messed up/hurt during induction and then they end up having another C-section in an emergency!

Acupressure. Get your DH to read and do this.

Worked for us!

QueenArseClangers · 08/11/2019 17:28

BREAST PUMP!!!!
I induced contractions successfully (although I was having twinges for days). Honestly, get on a yoga ball and stick on an electric pump!

monkeysox · 08/11/2019 17:36

I had a vbac and was induced . Drip not pessary.
I got epidural in just after drip started as its very strong very quickly.
All the best op Flowers

Lush sex bomb.

Has clary sage in it which is traditionally used in herbal medicine to bring on labour. I was 38 weeks pg in lush when i tried to buy one and cashier wouldn't let me buy it at first until i said i was nearly due anyway. I used it the day i went into labour. tbf i was woken up by mild labour pangs in the morning and went for a bath at about 7pm as they were not progressing, after half an hour in the bath they got worse. Called my dad to get me to the hospital which we did about 8:30 and dd was born 10:18.

Pineapple and mint tea (not at the same time) was suggested to my sister when she was overdue

Musereader · 08/11/2019 17:48

Though i suppose if you can't get to a lush then some clary sage essential oil would do, there is no evidence of it working any more than anything else but no harm either.

Wallywobbles · 08/11/2019 17:52

I carried huge bags of potatoes which worked for me.

Winterdaysarehere · 08/11/2019 17:53

Vacuuming got things going for me a few times!!

ScreamingLadySutch · 08/11/2019 17:55

Sex worked for me
