To ask where I can buy a 3x3 fake Kallax unit.

Hi all,

I really need a 3x3 ikea kallax unit to fit in a particular space. The problem is that ikea don't make a 3x3 kallax. (9 cubes)

Can anyone suggest where I might get a mock Kallax with cubes the same size? I can find lots that are the same height and width cubes, but none as deep as the kallax.
Kallax is 39cm deep, all the fakey ones I've found so far are only 30-33cm deep.
I've already looked at homebase, b&q, the range, b+m. Homebase have the right depth but don't do a 3x3 either. The others are all too shallow.

I am determined that this must exist somewhere, can anyone help me on my quest?

Buy the 4x3 and cut off the top row!

Only half joking, it wouldn't require much, just a handsaw, drill and maybe you'd need to re-paint it.

B&M and Home Bargains I think do something almost identical. Maybe Dunelm? I know I’ve seen one recently but can’t remember where!

tinysnickersaremyfavourite · 08/11/2019 15:00

@Cmagic7 thanks but too shallow.
Home bargains and b+m also too shallow.

I did look into cutting the top off but not that simple as the thicker bits around the edges arw actually hollow inside!

Argos do a 2x2 and a 1x2 cubes, could you put them together to make a 3x3?? They're slightly smaller than the IKEA ones..

tisonlymeagain · 08/11/2019 15:04

Wayfair normally have this kind of stuff

highhopess · 08/11/2019 15:06

B&q do them
Bought one myself a few weeks ago

babycatcher411 · 08/11/2019 15:08

We’ve chopped a level off our 4x4 in the garage to make it a work station at the slightly lower height of 3x4, it’s do about, but you need to be able to cut neatly, and you have to buy some corner brackets to secure the top back on

highhopess · 08/11/2019 15:08

Sorry realised I read wrong... ignore my posts!!!

WhenDoISleep · 08/11/2019 15:09

I have a 3x3 from B&Q - it is slightly smaller than the Kallax though.

WhenDoISleep · 08/11/2019 15:11

I would also say that the B&Q one is much harder work to put together than the Kallax, lots more screws and pegs, etc.

SmileCheese · 08/11/2019 15:18

I was going to suggest a flexi storage clever cube but it doesn't look like they do a 3x3 either. I just know from past research that they had the same depth for the shelves as a Kallax unit.

SistersOfPercy · 08/11/2019 15:24

You can cut Kallax, I've done it. DH and I made DD an indoor Guinea Pig home from one. This is it just after we'd cut out bits from it.

Use small billy bookcases. I’ve just put together 3x 40cm wide Billys, screwed together and it looks like a kallax. I used 20 cm deep ones, but I’m sure they do 40cm deep.

Isitme13 · 08/11/2019 15:29

Sorry, scrub that. Mine are 28cm deep, and they don’t do a 40 cm deep short billy.

1forAll74 · 08/11/2019 15:59

Do you know any local people/friends etc who could make you one to your specific size. Lots of men, and women, can do a bit of woodwork. I made myself a bookcase years ago,as I like a bit of diy.

Why not put together 9 single units?

CatToddlerUprising · 08/11/2019 16:32

Wayfair?

PassingIntoTheWest · 08/11/2019 16:36

I think GLTC have something similar, it's called Abbeville.

Oh, I think it's also too shallow. They're lovely quality, so that's a shame.

tinysnickersaremyfavourite · 08/11/2019 17:06

I'm not sure how I'd attach 9 individual cubes together, would be a bit faffy I think. Also, I think it would be quite a bit wider than a 3x3 because the edges are fatter, and then it won't fit the space

We attached a double row one to a single row (both ikea) and it works really well.
