For of us sharing a car.
3 hour journey there
3 hour back
She says it will cost £120 petrol
So charging £30 each
Do you think that's correct ?

on the one hand she's making a tidy profit, on the other hand id hate to drive for 6 hours so maybe she should be 🤔

£30 is a bargain. It's not just fuel, she's doing all the driving and more people in the car uses more petrol anyway. Would be way more expensive if everyone had to make their own arrangements

ivykaty44 · 14/12/2019 21:47

Loose legs, but the other 3 passengers have also taken their turn at driving and have jyst taken the cost of the petrol for the mileage

A Citroen c1 would actually use £48 worth of petrol so divided by 4 would be £12 not £30

The fairest thing to do is call in at a petrol station at the start and fill tank. When you all get back, fill the tank again and each pay a quarter of the bill. If any of you want to add a bit more, fair enough, but at least you will then know exactly how much the petrol cost. If you need to top up while you are away, again, pay a quarter each.

We used to go for days out and take a friend with us never asked for a penny in petrol. Said friend passed her driving test so said she would drive for a change (in her dads car) and asked us for petrol money. No more free lifts for her.

The HMRC rate to cover fuel ,insurance and wear and tear is 45p per mile so based on that it’s reasonable. Could you travel the 300 miles for less via public transport ? I very much doubt so - it’s reasonable especially when chauffeured door to door

Beautiful3 · 14/12/2019 22:17

I think I would pay that, £30 return trip. Being driven 3 hours there and gain back is better than public transport/driving.
