Am sat beside a guy just now, flirting with a woman on his phone, seriously talking some, amount of shite.
If I killed him would anyone give me an alabi?

Pity we don't have the French arrangement whereby it's expected that you go to the designated area at the back of the carriage (through the interconnecting doors).

I was on a German intercity train last year and the guard gave someone very short shrift about a fairly quiet mobile chat and told him to go out to the designated area.
Bliss.
At least in another language you get spared the mind numbing detail.

ssd · 07/11/2019 19:26

That would be great, this guys chat was utter shite and I could hear the woman on the other end as well, he was right next to me.
Last week a woman was obviously talking to her husband on her phone, it's just embarrassing for them but they don't seem to mind.

Weird.

I get the train every morning and the same girl calls her mum down the country and the discuss

  1. What they both had for tea the night before
  2. What they watched on tv
  3. What they will be having for tea tonight
This is all at 6.45am AND I WANT TO KILL HER. No matter what carriage of the DART (Dublin train) I get on she is there. Yes I am talking about you, woman in black jacket who gets on at Salthill/Monkstown
themueslicamel · 07/11/2019 23:39

YADNBU

they have quiet carriages on my line

Every
Fucking
Time

there is some cunt who thinks the no mobile rule doesn't apply to them.

These people will he first against the wall when then revolution comes......

Sarcelle · 07/11/2019 23:45

I used to get a train at 7am, every morning this man would ring his son (I presume) and say Rory, have you got up yet. Over and over, in this monotone voice. Annoying.

itsbetterthanabox · 07/11/2019 23:48

I never get why this is annoying to people but it's not annoying if it's 2 people both on train having a conversation.
Why is it different?

mumwon · 07/11/2019 23:53

@itsbetterthanaboxitsbetter 2 people having a conversation sitting together! (Shock & astonishment!) Obviously NOT in London

DeeCeeCherry · 07/11/2019 23:55

Went on a coach trip within Paris once. A woman (British) was braying on her phone. French passengers & coach driver interrupted and told her Non in no uncertain terms - Its not the done thing to cause a disturbance to other passengers so end your call, please. Which she did.

I have my IPod with me without fail if I'm ever using public transport so I can screen it all out. I don't mind people talking on their phone but I do mind when it's loud - Im not interested in their conversation, don't want to hear it

DonPablo · 07/11/2019 23:58

The worst is when they have it on freakin loudspeaker and hold the phone horizontally. Really gets my goat.

DdraigGoch · 08/11/2019 00:45

@itsbetterthanabox if you hear two people talking, you can filter it out. If you can only hear half of a conversation, your brain keeps trying to fill in the blanks (thus distracting you).

Ozgirl75 · 08/11/2019 00:48

I was on a train once from Crewe to London - had my book sorted, booked 1st class, was looking forward to a nice journey after a gruelling three days of work.

Some twat braying on his phone about braggy nonsense for 15 mins. Then he phoned someone else and regaled the conversation he’d just had - and then did this a third time with his wife.

Well the woman opposite me indicated with her eyebrows that we should murder him so we did.

ssd · 08/11/2019 18:29

Happened again tonight. I sat next to a women with a posh annoying voice, who chatted away on her phone, like she was sat at home. Didn't lower her voice at all. Carriage was packed but quiet. Everyone could hear her but she didn't seem to notice.

Is it just me?? I'd die of embarrassment but these people aren't caring at all. Maybe they like the sound of their own voices?

That's annoying too if the whole carriage can hear it.

Hingeandbracket · 08/11/2019 18:32

Some people seem not to have noticed they’ve swallowed a fucking loudhailer. Half the cunts are so loud they don’t need a phone.

Slightaggrandising · 08/11/2019 18:42

They always seem to have signal as well.

I always point to the quiet carriage sign. Usually works.

amusedbush · 08/11/2019 19:06

Half the cunts are so loud they don’t need a phone.

I used to work with a guy who basically screamed into his phone, it was like the ‘CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW??’ thing from Trigger Happy TV. We all suggested that he just open a window rather than use the receiver AngryGrin

WaningGibbous · 08/11/2019 19:11

You should google Bob Mortimer's Phone Man on Twitter. He nails it.

Treesthemovie · 08/11/2019 19:12

I won't lie, I love being on trains and listening to people's mad conversations. You see some mental stuff on trains and it brings me a lot of entertainment

ssd · 08/11/2019 19:39

I just want peace on the train at the end of the day, I don't want to hear someone's chat with her mum. Ever.

I used to have a Chinese signal blocker, a black box about the size of a cigarette packet with a couple of stubby aerials sticking out, which cost about £20. It worked against older phones (pre-3g I think). It cut off phones within a radius of about 20 feet. It was completely illegal, but fantastic. I kept it in my bag. It was like being god. People have sensible brief conversations were spared. But if I heard half-wits blathering on about what Maureen's sister in law had for her tea last Thursday I momentarily pressed the little button and they were mercilessly zapped Grin

In don't think anything similar is available now

NotaWagon · 08/11/2019 19:55

I agree.. shameless. They inflict their banality on me. My own is bad enough

ssd · 08/11/2019 20:08

Oh god FiddlesticksAkimbo , that sounds amazing 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The other day I was sat next to a woman who was on the phone saying her boyfriend couldn't possibly have raped that coworker, he was dating her at the time!. It was truly the most awful convo I've ever overheard.

ssd · 09/11/2019 19:36

See tonight I was on the train and realised someone I knew was talking on their phone, I was near her and recognised her voice, but she was talking quietly as she knew she was being overheard.
It's the ones who don't lower their voices at all and talk away, oblivious to everyone. I don't get it
