I'm not feeling well today, and having trouble sleeping.
Whilst laying in bed thinking, I heard a strange noise downstairs. I thought the cat might have brought home a mouse etc so I pop downstairs and have a look. Can't see anything or any sign of cat. Check the back door and the cat flap is open, all the way, stuck open.
So I shut it, and as I turn out the kitchen light the house phone rang!!!
My goodness it scared me - but because no good calls come at night I answered phone. No one there initially, and then i hear a tv with what sounds like a scary film playing in the background.

I've hung up and put the phone handset and base on mute downstairs.

I'm now upstairs writing this message so I don't feel so alone!!!!

This is so scary! Pls keep us updated x

Fridaynightfuntime · 09/11/2019 00:18

I shouldn’t have read this thread in bed about to go to sleep. I’m an anxious person and am constantly up and down at the window for any tiny noise anyway.

I really hope you’re ok OP and manage to get some sleep tonight.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 09/11/2019 00:21

Feel for you OP, it’s shit being a woman sometimes, reading the lengths woman living alone have to go to to try and feel safe in their own homes is awful.

Horrordoeurvres · 09/11/2019 00:48

Ohh this is so scary OP, please update us to let us know how you're getting on!!

whereareallmyhairbands · 09/11/2019 03:15

MsMustDoBetter · 09/11/2019 03:21

Has anything happened tonight?

Try and get some sleep if you can.

PanchoBarnes · 09/11/2019 03:32

I your cat back, yet?

Is it possible that some yobs are sometimes using the cottage next door, as it is vacant?

Empty beer cans in a bag, is better than being strewn about, I suppose.

Your son will be home soon, and you'll feel much better. Flowers

Zeusthemoose · 09/11/2019 03:41

Hope things are quiet for you tonight OP. Flowers

Kwackerly · 09/11/2019 03:42

When my husband worked night shifts I was just the same. One thing I used to to that helped was lean baking sheets against our back door, thinking they would make a racket when they fall down and wake me.

I am sorry you are awake and worrying, you'll be better once you have some security lights set up tomorrow. Did cat get back, pets are very comforting at times like this? You have lovely neighbors very close by, try not to stress too much, read some boring politics or something maybe?

PanchoBarnes · 09/11/2019 03:57

Adding to the yobs thought -- they may know that your son has gone off to uni, so know you're alone, and they were being drunken dicks pulling a prank.
I hope it was all just a prank(s) and nothing else. (And will stop now.)

Do you know if the police checked the vacant cottage, when they came out the other night?

Sometimes when I get spooked in the middle of the night, I actually go outside and walk around just a bit, to assure myself that things are fine; then I feel normal again. I do lock the door while I'm out, even if just for 30 seconds. Grin

Shooturlocalmethdealer · 09/11/2019 04:48

I would never leave a light on. You have the advantage of knowing the floor plan of your home. An intruder does not.
I couldn't fathom leaving my valuables for burglars to just steal so easily but I live in the States.
Never had to use my shotgun, never want to but I have it and feel secure knowing its safely locked away if ever needed.
Buy a baseball bat, pepper spray, a large knife any kind of weapon to protect yourself.
I would call the police if I were you. Hope you are safe.

Soulstirring · 09/11/2019 05:04

Hoping you managed to sleep OP.

fickthisshut · 09/11/2019 05:11

Wow OP, hope you are ok and get some sleep.

Squeakybubbles26 · 09/11/2019 05:17

Wow OP this scares me just reading it. I'm often home alone in the evenings and couldn't think of anything worse myself. Hope you managed to get some sleep.

WinterRose92 · 09/11/2019 05:44

This is so freaky to read!
Op I hope you’re okay and have managed some sleep at least x

Allice · 09/11/2019 05:50

Hope you're sleeping now and the shoe foxes went away.

spanglydangly · 09/11/2019 06:08

I hope you're sound asleep and all is calm

custardbear · 09/11/2019 06:20

Hope you're ok OP

Did you speak to the police again? Is there any way your ex could have his fingerprints on file? Just thinking they could check the beer can maybe?

MrsAJ27 · 09/11/2019 06:20

Oh bless you, sounds bloody awful. Hope you are sleeping now Flowers

IDontLikeZombies · 09/11/2019 06:34

OP, if your neighbour isn't the full ticket could it be him with the cans? Maybe he felt that the foxes have gone beyond the pale and he's decided to run a stake out with his carry out. I know more than one very lovely, if somewhat bananas, man who would do this out of pure kindness and not think that you might be scared by the rubbish.

MyOtherProfile · 09/11/2019 06:38

Hope you're ok

sauvignonblancplz · 09/11/2019 06:45

Just RTFT horrible , hope you’re ok

spookysamhainwitch · 09/11/2019 06:55

Hope you managed to get some sleep op.

Aroundnabout1 · 09/11/2019 07:05

Sorry if this was answered but just wondering if the OP ever answered the question about if she did 1471 after the original phone call? And if not, why? I do it automatically.

rainbowstardrops · 09/11/2019 07:37
