I'm not feeling well today, and having trouble sleeping.
Whilst laying in bed thinking, I heard a strange noise downstairs. I thought the cat might have brought home a mouse etc so I pop downstairs and have a look. Can't see anything or any sign of cat. Check the back door and the cat flap is open, all the way, stuck open.
So I shut it, and as I turn out the kitchen light the house phone rang!!!
My goodness it scared me - but because no good calls come at night I answered phone. No one there initially, and then i hear a tv with what sounds like a scary film playing in the background.

I've hung up and put the phone handset and base on mute downstairs.

I'm now upstairs writing this message so I don't feel so alone!!!!

Me again. I was thinking watching 'Strictly Come Dancing' on iplayer would certainly take your mind off (especially Johannes) and you don't need to have it on very loudly - that is of course if you like the programme.

I can really sense your fear, op.

Live on my own for half of the week ( husband works away) in a property with a large garden. I worry about safety because I feel it would be easy to enter my house and attack me. I have a greyhound and he would basically say, 'Come in Mr Burgler, nice to meet you', ie not a guard dog. At nightime I always have at least a nightlight on because the dark scares me. What I did a while ago is place a wasp/insect killer by my bed and by the door. Hopefully never have to use them. I'm not going to stash a weapon by my bed but I'd have no hesitation about grapping the aerosol and spraying it in an intruder's eyes and these things are toxic.

Op, at 2am I wonder if it was your son who accidentally called you?
Hearing a tv means it couldn’t have been anyone outside.
Log all of this with a few neighbours (they may have had similar goings on) and neighbourhood watch.
Replace back door with upvc and get multilocks fitted in front door.

Just waiting for the police - about half an hour ago the door bell went.

I called the police straight away and they're sending someone out.

whereareallmyhair bands, oh my goodness, the bell went twice, that is dreadful. I felt quite sure when I was on here earlier that what you experienced wasn't an indication of anything serious but if my bell went off twice late at night, I would freak.

What a relief the police are on their way. You may not be the only resident in your area in recent times who has had this happen and if so he police will notice a pattern and construct a profile. It could be someone who gets a kick out of being a nuisance but if they are caught, that will put a stop to their antics.

Please do come back and tell us the outcome of the police visit.

Just saw this. Hopefully the police are there now.

I am also hoping it's someone who has got the wrong house. Maybe they have just moved into the neighborhood and came home drunk and mistook your house for theirs.
