I'm not feeling well today, and having trouble sleeping.
Whilst laying in bed thinking, I heard a strange noise downstairs. I thought the cat might have brought home a mouse etc so I pop downstairs and have a look. Can't see anything or any sign of cat. Check the back door and the cat flap is open, all the way, stuck open.
So I shut it, and as I turn out the kitchen light the house phone rang!!!
My goodness it scared me - but because no good calls come at night I answered phone. No one there initially, and then i hear a tv with what sounds like a scary film playing in the background.

I've hung up and put the phone handset and base on mute downstairs.

I'm now upstairs writing this message so I don't feel so alone!!!!

Are you in any contact with your ex?

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 08/11/2019 10:07

divebar has a point about talking to the neighbours. If any of them have ring doorbells or cctv they may also have a look for you and see if they can spot someone going by around those times.

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 08/11/2019 10:12

Glad you're ok OP, been worried. Get a good lock on your bedroom door and a fire extinguisher next to the bed. A good blast of that will see the fucker off if he gets in.

DarkNightDelight · 08/11/2019 10:30

Glad you're ok, I read this thread before bed and had a horrible nightmare Confused

@charactersonclothesaretrashy

Is that really appropriate? OP is genuinely worried and you're being an arse quoting 'scary' movie quotes. Go troll another thread.

Dontdragyourfeet · 08/11/2019 11:21

Hi OP, I'm sorry you're going through this, it sounds very scary.

Apologies if someone has already mentioned this but my friend recently brought some stickers like these: amzn.to/34G5kOF to ward off intruders. It might make someone think twice about attempting something? At least for in the interim whilst you look at more robust security measures.

FairiesontheSwing · 08/11/2019 11:22

Cameras for sure. Horrible feeling. Hope you are ok tonight.

charactersonclothesaretrashy · 08/11/2019 12:38

Sorry op. I didn't mean any harm. Hope you're okay.

BlueJava · 08/11/2019 14:26

Nothing is silly OP. Hope you get to the bottom of it.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 08/11/2019 14:30

I would shit my pants.

Shit them.

And I would buy a big dog.

Tensixtysix · 08/11/2019 14:34

The coat hanger thing is scary! If any of you have one of those 'self locking' doors, always use the key to fully lock at night.
The locksmith told me that they (burglars) specifically look for doors with a 'palm handle', so that they can open the door through the letter box.

JJSS123 · 08/11/2019 14:52

OMG op so pleased you said about paranormal I thought the same thing!! This is easier fixed than that 🙈

TheReluctantCountess · 08/11/2019 15:09

When I Go to bed, I leave the tv on downstairs (on mute). It turns itself off after about three hours, but it means that it looks like someone is awake and downstairs for a while. I live in an area with high crime, especially vehicles being broken into in the wee hours, and mine hasn’t been touched (so far!). I hope that the idea that someone is in the lounge, with a window onto the drive, puts any potential thieves off.

RainbowAlicorn · 08/11/2019 15:18

Hope you find out who it was OP.

doublebarrellednurse · 08/11/2019 16:17

Yikes thinking of you OP this would wig me right out

Chunkers · 08/11/2019 16:30

If it is your ex, why on earth would you consider letting him into your home? He has been frightening you and drinking at your back door! I would call the police if it is him and he turns up again, he is not your responsibility.

PollyShelby · 08/11/2019 17:08

Have you a number for your ex? I would call him if so.

Rhubarbcrumblerules · 08/11/2019 17:12

sorry, wrong thread

tensmum1964 · 08/11/2019 17:32

Sounds like odd behaviour if it was your ex. Hope you find put soon so that it puts your mind at rest.

I've just used Microsoft paint for the first time in years to sketch up a diagram

Whoops you might need a magnifying glass.

I've tried the last number I had for my ex but it's no longer in service (a long time instead of a ringing tone)

I have been to my neighbours to ask if they had seen any strange activity in the twitten, nothing to report (apart from the man next door who chose to tell me all about how he's convinced the foxes are taking his shoes, he's not the full ticket)

I'm just going to pour a glass of wine and then see if I can find any Facebook pages for my ex . Failing that, I might call his sister (last resort!)

I still think it would be odd behaviour for him.

But I also don't want to go back to thinking it's a stranger (or ghost)
