I can't cope with the school run anymore!!

I don't drive. (Have a tiny breastfeeding baby, so won't be able to learn until she's older.) DH works looong hours. DD (5) just started school 20-25 minutes walk away.

I just can't do it anymore! DD is so tired some days I have to drag her scooter with one arm and push her sister's pram with the other. In the rain if I'm unlucky.

I'm seriously thinking about hiring a taxi to take us every day... 😖 AIBU?

Buggyboard for the pram?

MyKingdomForBrie · 07/11/2019 01:06

Sling and a trike with a push handle?

DramaAlpaca · 07/11/2019 01:07

What PlaymobilPirate said. I wanted to suggest that but couldn't remember what it was called.

PapayaCoconut · 07/11/2019 01:08

Don't you think she's a bit old for a buggyboard at the age of five?

Rosehassometoes · 07/11/2019 01:09

I would on really wet days if you can afford it.

Houseworkavoider · 07/11/2019 01:09

Honestly get a buggy board as previously suggested.
So hard. You have my sympathy Flowers

Houseworkavoider · 07/11/2019 01:10

No! 5 is fine

FridalovesDiego · 07/11/2019 01:10

I think you should start driving lessons immediately, It would be much cheaper than 4 cabs every day. leave the baby with its dad for a few hours.

Homemadearmy · 07/11/2019 01:10

If you can afford it get a taxi, even if it's just for the rainy days.

Rosehassometoes · 07/11/2019 01:12

No not too old.
I think you could almost justify a double for a tired reception age child.

DramaAlpaca · 07/11/2019 01:12

No, not too old at 5 for a buggyboard. You do what you need to do to make life with small children easier for yourself. Taxi on wet days included.

PapayaCoconut · 07/11/2019 01:13

How quickly do you think I could learn? I'm 35 and only had three lessons in my life...

Rosehassometoes · 07/11/2019 01:18

It took me 2 years having 1 lesson a week. I’m a worst case scenario Shock

LadyLanka · 07/11/2019 01:18

20 to 25 minutes is not that far. Kit up with appropriate clothing.

supermommyof4 · 07/11/2019 01:21

@PapayaCoconut I'm 42 and started lessons in june. Your never too old andi wish I had done it sooner.

PapayaCoconut · 07/11/2019 01:24

@supermommyof4

Well done. I will do it but I'm wondering if I need a temporary solution as well. Maybe the buggy board.. Have you scheduled a test yet?

OP posts:
PapayaCoconut · 07/11/2019 01:26

When it doesn't rain, it's not so bag, but bloody hell does it rain sometimes! 😖

PapayaCoconut · 07/11/2019 01:27

*bad, not "bag", obv...

She's still very young at 5, I've seen much older kids on buggyboards. They are a godsend. I don't think I'd get a taxi as the walk is good exercise for you and fresh air for the baby.

Gemma2019 · 07/11/2019 01:31

Meant to say we had a great one called a Lascal maxi, you can pick them up on Facebook marketplace really cheap

shiningstar2 · 07/11/2019 01:31

Instead of a taxi could you pay a childminder or other mum going the same way to take her in the mornings so that you don't have to rush out with the baby? You could get organised and just do the afternoons. This would make the start of the day less frantic and you might find the afternoon walk more pleasant if you are not going there and back twice.

Thankful2020 · 07/11/2019 01:32

No buses where you live?

supermommyof4 · 07/11/2019 01:37

@PapayaCoconut not yet no hoping by spring/summer next year to be booking it then. I'm driving from home and back again and have been taught several manoeuvres, it's just gaining confidence. Only been having lessons 4mths and a bit.
I know this sounds daft but do you have any moms near by that would be willing to drop off or pick up a few days perhaps a few quid Chip in for fuel etc. Is that the shortest route you take..are there any shortcuts you are not aware of that are safe. Do they have a breakfast club..could Dh drop her off earlier? Save you one journey.

supermommyof4 · 07/11/2019 01:42

@PapayaCoconut I remember it well. Those pesky school runs, it always seemingly waits till drop off or pick up to belt it down. Breast fed all 4 of mine, and had 3 under 5 at one point, it was really difficult and was even harder when I had one at preschool too. So 3 journeys a day there and back.

SandAndSea · 07/11/2019 01:42

Get a buggyboard and start studying for the written bit of the driving test and also, have a think if there's anyone who could ever give your DD a lift. Even if you offered a bit of petrol money, it would be cheaper than a taxi.
