should not be selected by a national party as suitable for election to public office?

“I think women need to be more aware of a man’s sexual desire; that when you’re in that position that you are about to engage in sexual activity there’s a huge amount of energy in the male body, there’s a huge amount of will and intent, and it’s very difficult for many men to say no when they are whipped up into a bit of a storm.

“And it’s the old adage about if you yank a dog’s tale then don’t be surprised when it bites you.

“Or you can’t keep snakes in the garden and think they’ll only bite your neighbours.”

Apparently he has been selected as the Conservative Party candidate for Broadlands.

Am I wrong to be upset about this and the message it sends? Or should it be OK because he has apologised and it was 4 years ago?

Shit like this is never ok. Fucking arsehole misogynist Angry

DorothyParkersCat · 07/11/2019 00:16

It's awful isn't it? How can this be OK?

Senior Conservative women should speak out about this.

""An awful lot of money, an awful lot of police time, now goes into these historic offences and all this malarkey and you know £60 million I saw has been spaffed up the wall on some investigation into historic child abuse and all this kind of thing."
Our current Prime Minister, earlier this year

It's par for the course for male, conservative MPs.

DorothyParkersCat · 07/11/2019 09:02

@ButterTarts I don't agree with what Boris Johnson said as you quoted but I do think what Nick Conrad said is in a totally different league.

It's a legitimate view point to take that investigation of historic offences is a waste of money for many reasons including risk of unfairness due to lapse of time and failure of memory.

It is not a legitimate view point to suggest rape is OK because men can't control themselves and women are 'yanking a dog's tail.'

My biggest issue with this is of all the people of quality in this country that this person has been CHOSEN as fit for public office. It has really upset me and I find it shocking.

How can the local association think that this person would appeal to 50% of the consituency - namely women?

They're scraping the bottom of the barrel, and actively searching out the worst. Rape culture is really embedded now. Rape is pretty much inevitable nowadays because women get men aroused; strangling a woman is not murder because the now voiceless dead woman liked it rough; there's a new freedom for men to do a little light rape and pillage of a weekend, it seems.

Deeply concerning and disheartening, especially as we won't have protection of rights from the EU any longer.

CockleburIck · 07/11/2019 09:28

Grotesque and disgusting. But then think about the most powerful man in the world and it should come as no surprise.
Depressing times.

Justonedayatatime11 · 07/11/2019 09:55

He's an absolute disgrace. I went to school with him and even then his very vocal opinions on things were horrific

SerendipityJane · 07/11/2019 10:00

Because they probably will. Someone is voting these cunts in. And it can't just be men.

No matter how misogynistic any political party is, you'll have cheering handmaidens voting them in. No thought for their own daughters much less anyone elses.

Why do you think so many women are leaving politics ?

But, hey, it's all worth it in the end, if it gets the NHS sold to the US and Boris back for good, isn't it ?

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 07/11/2019 10:43

YANBU. Words actually fail me. How can any woman (or man) with half a brain vote for him.

Hazardd · 07/11/2019 10:52

YANBU. huge amount of engery in the male body are men mindless animals then? If he's right we should lock them all up because they can't control themselves. Day release only when supervised by ten women with cattle prods.

Apologising for what he said doesn't make it alright or him electable. Unless he's proposing doing the job with the mentioned ten women with cattle prods supervising. Perhaps that's how they got him to apologise Grin

DorothyParkersCat · 07/11/2019 22:36

He's stood down as a candidate. I would be pleased except that he's only standing down because he's a distraction and has not been removed by the Conservatives as unfit for public office.
