Aibu to switch off the broadband CF Neighbours

So long story short aibu to switch off my router as we have kindly let next door use the internet as theirs was down.

The mother (who has not so much as said hello since we moved here) sent her son round last Saturday to ask and my dp said yes, I have checked our settings and they are hooked up to a fire stick and about 3 phones.

I’m not being unreasonable to think if we let her use it she won’t get her own internet sorted out if she has access to ours - I suspect it is due to a billing issue as the mother is constantly having very late nights as my dp will hear her and her friends still up at 5.30am when he gets up. I will also add the mother does work.

Aibu? I do feel a bit guilty on her kids 😣

Can you see if they are still connected? If they are, you can kick them off and block the devices.

BloggersBlog · 08/11/2019 08:28

How can they still be connected if they have got the password @JuniperBeer? (Am not tech savvy!)

Cheekyneighbour · 08/11/2019 10:10

No they are no longer connected since I changed the password. It was hassle reconnecting all the devices in my household so defo won’t be happening again!

Off topic, we used to have prettyflyforawifi too - now it’s imhidingunderyourbed Grin

Blatherskite · 08/11/2019 12:42

Ours was PrettyFlyForAWiFi too.

We did update to PrettyFlyForAFibreWiFi for a while.

SistersOfPercy · 08/11/2019 12:56

Another prettyfly here, its currently 'LanSolo' given we're Star Wars nuts.

Blatherskite · 08/11/2019 13:21

Now I want to change it to LandoCalrissian! Grin

Blatherskite · 08/11/2019 13:22

Actually it should be LANdoCalrissian

amiapropermum · 08/11/2019 13:27

If she does come around you could say, "We've had to change our details, I'm afraid. Didn't seem very secure - looked like somebody we don't know managed to access our network somehow! Anyway, you most be sorted by now. Crap weather, isn't it?"

Penners99 · 08/11/2019 13:52

They will be round tonight to demand the password

Tensixtysix · 08/11/2019 13:58

If they have mobile data, then they can use that phone to form a 'Mobile Hotspot'.
They shouldn't ever use other people's internet!

SistersOfPercy · 08/11/2019 13:58

@Blatherskite
We've had that too, and DH, ever the Stoke fan has had WiFiWhyDelilah

Toddlerteaplease · 08/11/2019 13:59

No way would I ever give a neighbour my password. Why should they use a service I'm paying for and they aren't!

MulticolourMophead · 08/11/2019 14:01

Local to me, I can see "LANofthefree".

DS is musing on what we can change ours to......

HuggedTrees · 08/11/2019 14:02

Well done for cutting them off

Motoko · 08/11/2019 14:02

For a while, ours was "ScanMyNetworkAndDie".

Blatherskite · 08/11/2019 14:04

@SistersOfPercy, we couldn't agree on what to change it to last time so we let 9yo DD choose. It's now named after her favourite food!

Jaxhog · 08/11/2019 14:06

...and change the name of your router to “BBC Television Detector Van 3”....just for a laugh.

Yes!!!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 08/11/2019 14:10

Some if these WiFi names are hilarious!

TheReluctantCountess · 08/11/2019 14:22

I wonder if they will be back asking for the new password.

PhilCornwall1 · 08/11/2019 15:45

You don't need to change the password. In the router management front end you should be able to block devices. It shouldn't matter if they change the name of the device, as it should block by MAC address and not the device name. The MAC address will never change.

That should sort them out.

RebootYourEngine · 08/11/2019 18:15

Just popping in to see if they have been round yet.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 08/11/2019 18:35

Slightly off topic (&also wanted to keep updated if they ask again)
How do you change your WiFi name?
