Aibu to switch off the broadband CF Neighbours

So long story short aibu to switch off my router as we have kindly let next door use the internet as theirs was down.

The mother (who has not so much as said hello since we moved here) sent her son round last Saturday to ask and my dp said yes, I have checked our settings and they are hooked up to a fire stick and about 3 phones.

I’m not being unreasonable to think if we let her use it she won’t get her own internet sorted out if she has access to ours - I suspect it is due to a billing issue as the mother is constantly having very late nights as my dp will hear her and her friends still up at 5.30am when he gets up. I will also add the mother does work.

Aibu? I do feel a bit guilty on her kids 😣

I agree, I bet someone will be round before the end of the day. Have you firmly told your DH that it's a "No" this time?

Drum2018 · 07/11/2019 18:41

If they have the cheek to come around just say you assumed they'd have had theirs sorted by now. If they say they haven't (given they probably have no intention of ever getting their own wifi) just be vague and suggest they switch provider while closing the door.

MedusasButterDish · 07/11/2019 18:41

I noticed she had given the code to another person who was visiting her at home as it came up with someone else’s iPhone connected to the broadband!

That's... er... hospitable of her. Hmm

Starlight456 · 07/11/2019 18:51

Glad it’s sorted op.

Yes cf’s like that I would be expecting a knock

Be clear it’s not an option bye

Cheekyneighbour · 07/11/2019 18:54

They’ve been quite noisy this evening, slamming doors and stomping up the stairs.

Cleary pissed off 😂

Ha ha ha ha

NerrSnerr · 07/11/2019 19:04

Just caught up with the thread. I'm glad it's all sorted OP.

JonSlow · 07/11/2019 19:05

With firesticks etc they could be easily streaming pirated films - so less of the child porn/bombs, but still things that attract the wrong kind of attention.

You’ve done the best thing.

fedup21 · 07/11/2019 19:07

Have you (and DH!) practised what you’re going to say when they knock again?!

Adogwithabone · 07/11/2019 19:29

Oh well done, OP. I don't think they'll be round if they're making an extra effort to let you know they're not connected! But you never know..

ListeningQuietly · 07/11/2019 19:38

Standing in the lobby of a block of flats
best router name was
"Getyourownfuckingrouter"
next best was
"hiddenpassword"

Lolwhat · 07/11/2019 20:08

Just kick them off and change the password

Justaboy · 07/11/2019 20:49

Oh wow, I didn't realise Zen were still on the go, they were my first internet provider, I joined when they started up in 1995!

Yep Nononever, those were the days, we used Demon Internet at first then the local cable Co came on the scene and we saw broadband for the first time 512K Down!! and it was always ON no Dialup anymore remeber that, and that running at 56K not Meg just Kilobits?.

Don't fret re the NDN changing the password they first have to have access and that cannot happen unless they have the Wi-fi password to be connected to your system so it matters not what the username and login is without being connected they cannot alter it!

While your in ther OP if you can change the default radio channel they range from 1 to 13 in the UK most routers use chanell 6 and as most others around are set ion the default it dosnt work all that well try using 13 thats usually better it dosent quite overlap so much.

Or better still if you have it use the 5.8Ghz band far more room up there:)

Best SSID around here;

onthecoins · 07/11/2019 20:57

Change it to "policedetectiveunit426".

Or "Mobilepolicesurveillance".

Oh yes, no more getting knocked off when someone phoned! And a few years later along came Google. Our kids are aghast when we tell them about 'back in the day'.

Glad you got your router sorted out OP!

Hangingwithmygnomies · 07/11/2019 22:00

She gave it to someone else?! Cheeky bitch! Might change the name on my router seeing some of these suggestions Grin

RedSoloCup · 07/11/2019 22:45

I take it they've not been round yet OP?

AntennaReborn · 07/11/2019 22:57

@ItsJustASimpleLine
One near me is 'PrettyFlyForAWifi'

That used to be mine! DH thought it was idiotic, I thought it was hilarious 😂

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 08/11/2019 00:00

What a cheek. People like this never just have their internet go off, they don’t have internet and don’t intend to.

I bet she has her phone and realised that your WiFi reaches her house.

ithinkmycatistryingtokillme · 08/11/2019 00:20

We had one nearby-"mycatwillbiteyou", and yes their cat was a vicious little git who you didn't approach.

By the way I'm a cat lover but that cat...

ZacharyQuack · 08/11/2019 00:24

Our used to be "BinDayisTUESDAY". Bloody neighbours with their bins out all week.

Cheekyneighbour · 08/11/2019 07:01

@Hangingwithmygnomies

They are quite comical aren’t they!

No, not been round yet and I’m out most of the day today so even if they did come round, I won’t be there sigh

ItsJustASimpleLine · 08/11/2019 07:02

@AntennaReborn Smile it made me laugh!

MoobaaMoobaa · 08/11/2019 07:25

Ahhh a happy conclusion.

You should really change your WiFi name though to something like, 'dontBotherAskingAgain'
