Aibu to switch off the broadband CF Neighbours

Cheekyneighbour · 06/11/2019 22:45

So long story short aibu to switch off my router as we have kindly let next door use the internet as theirs was down.

The mother (who has not so much as said hello since we moved here) sent her son round last Saturday to ask and my dp said yes, I have checked our settings and they are hooked up to a fire stick and about 3 phones.

I’m not being unreasonable to think if we let her use it she won’t get her own internet sorted out if she has access to ours - I suspect it is due to a billing issue as the mother is constantly having very late nights as my dp will hear her and her friends still up at 5.30am when he gets up. I will also add the mother does work.

Aibu? I do feel a bit guilty on her kids 😣

I thought OPs 50gb referred to her phone plan so she wasn't bothered if the WiFi was switched off, rather than the limit for the WiFi at home.

Majorcollywobble · 07/11/2019 14:35

You helped out . Now it’s time to pull the plug . It’s her that should feel sorry for her kids, not you . Flowers

Cheekyneighbour · 07/11/2019 17:04

Thank you for all your help with this, I finally managed to change it, it was the admin username plus my WiFi password so I’ve got in and changed it now, but before I did it I noticed she had given the code to another person who was visiting her at home as it came up with someone else’s iPhone connected to the broadband! CF! Lesson learned!

I can't believe how cheeky some people are - that is a mega piss take OP, good on you for changing the password. It's one thing helping someone out who may have moved in and literally needs it for a couple of hours but it sounds like she was thinking it was a long term arrangement!

LissJas · 07/11/2019 17:14

So she can't access it at all now? If so, I'd wait for the knock at your door sooner rather than later!

Raspberrytruffle · 07/11/2019 17:16

We mistakenly allowed our neighbor's to use our internet just for the day so they could do an online application to get there dd in to a different school, they said oh we will be getting our own wifi in a few days. Every day they were sat on our bench with out fail sat using their laptop because our wifi didn't reach their house and it was the summer so light hot nights. After 2 weeks of coming home every evening to find the whole family hooked up to our internet sat on our bench outside our house so we rang up bt and told them what happened and got the password changed, they had the nerve to be straight on the doorbell asking why they couldn't get on our internet. I lied and said oh I've been cut off I didn't pay my bill! Anyway it wont be long until you get your wifi put in? The Cf neighbor's went and borrowed other neighbor's internet.

YANBU -

I bet this isn't the last you hear of them though....Grin

HappyHammy · 07/11/2019 17:19

She gave it to someone else, cheeky mare. Hope it's all safely set up now and they cant access it.

Loopylouloves · 07/11/2019 17:26

@Cheekyneighbour I think you ve been nice enough! It took our broadband supplier 2 weeks to sort ours out when we moved, our neighbour kindly offered use of hers but we didn't. It just didn't feel right to use something someone else was paying for.
Fair enough if it was a one-off and they really needed it but this is taking it too far. Switch your router off and change your password.

nononever · 07/11/2019 17:28

Severel other providers are out there such as Zen Internet who are excelent

Oh wow, I didn't realise Zen were still on the go, they were my first internet provider, I joined when they started up in 1995!

TheRobinIsBobbingAlong · 07/11/2019 17:31

I'm just impressed that your NDN could access your wifi from their house. We can't always get a good signal upstairs in our own house!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 07/11/2019 17:34

Searching for WiFi belonging to my Bed and breakfast , I noticed a nearby network named NotAnymoreMate

SkaraBrae · 07/11/2019 17:37

Grin love that

ItsJustASimpleLine · 07/11/2019 17:39

One near me is 'PrettyFlyForAWifi'

It tickled me

dentydown · 07/11/2019 17:40

I would of given you wine/biscuits for the trouble and got it sorted ASAP.

CAG12 · 07/11/2019 17:40

Really cheeky. Change the password and say you're being charged for exceeding your limits.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 07/11/2019 17:52

I would suggest if your router password is 'admin' and the password to log onto your router is the same as your old wifi password, then you need to change it because admin is the default and they already have your old wifi password to login. They can then effectively change the details and log you out from your own router and change your wifi password so you can't logon. Obviously you can turn it off or reset it as the router is still in your house but a bit of pain if they do that.

I would call Sky and ask them to help you change (at the very least) the router logon password. Choose something totally random and write it down on a sticker and stick it on the back of the router.

Cheekyneighbour · 07/11/2019 18:01

@TheRobinIsBobbingAlong

We live in a terraced house and The walls are quite thin and we have a the best WiFi sky has to offer, not sure if this makes a difference to the distance it can reach though?

@purplecrazyhorse

I didn’t even think to check it I could get back in using the old password! Will do that now. Thanks for that!

I was wondering earlier if she would send her lad round to ask again, hopefully she will just get hers sorted and save her poor son and myself an awkward conversation!

How long will it be before she is back at your door??

britnay · 07/11/2019 18:31

my money is on you having a knock on your door before the end of the day...

bridgetreilly · 07/11/2019 18:35

Great. And just say you change it regularly, so even if they do get it again, they know you aren't expecting them to be able to use it forever.
