Aibu to switch off the broadband CF Neighbours

Cheekyneighbour · 06/11/2019 22:45

So long story short aibu to switch off my router as we have kindly let next door use the internet as theirs was down.

The mother (who has not so much as said hello since we moved here) sent her son round last Saturday to ask and my dp said yes, I have checked our settings and they are hooked up to a fire stick and about 3 phones.

I’m not being unreasonable to think if we let her use it she won’t get her own internet sorted out if she has access to ours - I suspect it is due to a billing issue as the mother is constantly having very late nights as my dp will hear her and her friends still up at 5.30am when he gets up. I will also add the mother does work.

Aibu? I do feel a bit guilty on her kids 😣

That looks ok just log in using your username and password then go from there:)

Justaboy · 07/11/2019 00:06

Thats your router admin name and password nowt to do with the wi-fi password!

worriedmumtoteen · 07/11/2019 00:07

It says the password will be sent unencrypted... put in your username and ow then go from there. It looks fine.

Cheekyneighbour · 07/11/2019 00:08

I’ve tried the admin and sky pword and also tried the password we give to next door and still doesn’t let me in

Switch it off and go over there, telling them that yours is now down (not technically untrue, albeit deliberately so).

Say that you were happy you were able to help them in their time of need, but now they'll have had plenty of time to get theirs sorted, you need them to return the favour and give you the password to theirs now, so that you can use it until your 'issues' are sorted.

Cheekyneighbour · 07/11/2019 00:11

It’s not letting me connect to the WiFi now 😡 think it’s enough for one night!!

Humm..

The username is sometimes ADMIN an the password is what you set it to last time you used it.

Or you've corrupted it somehow. I don't know much about Sky routers we have Draytek and Cisco pro ones here but if all else fails there is usualy a reset swith somethere on the unt that piuts it back to its defaults .

If that dosent work then give Sky tech support a ring in the morning!.

Lhastingsmua · 07/11/2019 00:13

Don’t go over there lol

OP - have you actually tried resetting it?

I mainly wanted to post to say don’t give them access to your WiFi, not just because they could use it for nefarious reasons, but because 50GB isn’t much at all and it would be very easy for you to be charged for going over that.

That 50GB was divided between both your households, they could be watching Netflix which is usually 1GB per episode - imagine both of them watching Netflix or YouTube separately whilst your household is too - you’ll just burn through 50GB!

malpa · 07/11/2019 00:13

"Your password will be sent unencrypted" just means that what you type will be visible to see (it won't be replaced with asterisks, for example); nothing to worry about.

Surely if they had changed the password though, I’d be logged out of any and all devices with the old password I used to log in?

No. Changing the password doesn't affect any devices connected to the router, unless you prevent those devices (via the router settings) from having access. Do you login every time you the Internet?

Reset your router as I explained in my last post. That should give you access.

Justaboy · 07/11/2019 00:15

Ah!, it maybe that as your wi-fi isnt going then your router may not be accessable over the wi-fi anyway best to switch it off overnight and give tech support a bell in the morning!

Nite!

Cheekyneighbour · 07/11/2019 00:24

My dp is going to be cross with me in the morning 😂 he told me to stop messing about with it incase I get locked out of the broadband and low and behold I can’t log in, just loaded up safari on his phone and he can’t connect either 😂 woooooops!

Cheekyneighbour · 07/11/2019 00:25

Karma for turning it off in the first place? Maybe

Don't tell your internet provider that you have shared access with your neighbour when/ if you call them. It probably violates terms and conditions of your package. Just plead ignorance...and when they fix the problem, block your neighbours. If they call to ask why access is a problem, say you have been in touch with technical support who say it violates your contract and will get you banned so 'sorry, no can do...'.

Cheekyneighbour · 07/11/2019 00:28

Oh I’m back on the WiFi now thank heavens. I’m not doing any more messing about with it I’ll ring sky tomorrow and they can help me do it! Thanks for your help everyone

You don't need tech support. Just reset the router! I bet you'll be up and running in minutes.

Justaboy · 07/11/2019 00:31

Well if the wi-fi is now up then try logging in again!

Perhaps before you do a total reset!..

Lhastingsmua · 07/11/2019 00:32

Oh come on, resetting it sounds so simple

rebecca102 · 07/11/2019 00:33

Switch it off!!!

zoobaby · 07/11/2019 00:34

Once you figure out how to change the password, you should defo change the name of your network to something like "payforyourownwifi"

Grin
Justaboy · 07/11/2019 00:35

Yes but as her access is via wi-fi then perhaps retrying the known username passwrod in case she locks her phone out!

Justaboy · 07/11/2019 00:36

Thats to say her phones wi-fi access username (SSID) and password!

Ayemama · 07/11/2019 00:37

It's so cheeky to send a kid to ask anyway

Cheekyneighbour · 07/11/2019 00:38

I’m just leaving it for tonight haha I bet it’s dead simple to do and I’m making a mountain out of a mole hill with it but I can’t do it and I don’t want to break it 😂😂

OP posts:
MyKingdomForBrie · 07/11/2019 00:39

Oh well at least you can definitely now say they can't have it because it's having issues!!
