We are moving house and area as the one we are currently in isn’t great. We have 2 children 3&8.

Location 1-
Top performing schools
Good area to raise kids- lots of community events
More house for your money
A bit remote - no train station, 20 minutes to nearest town, 30 minutes to family (we currently live within 5-10 minutes from all family)
A spare bedroom if family wanted to come and stay

Location 2
Better area than current area but not as great as location 1
More expensive houses
Great transport links
Remaining within 5-10 minutes to family

Would you pick location 1 or 2

Forgot to mention, 2 of my sons friends have moved to location 1 so he would know people and keep friends.

If you have a car definitely option one. We moved to a small rural town three years ago and was the best decision, Though takes some adapting to. We have one bus a day into main town and no trains but the community is brilliant.

Option 1 although for me it would come down to how much i like the house and garden.

NotQuiteUsual · 06/11/2019 07:34

If all the children's friends are in location 1, then the lack of public transport shouldn't be too big of an issue, assuming the parents all take their fair share of playing taxi.

I live half an hour from family and it's nothing. It really won't be an issue assuming they all drive.

Location 2. Mine are late teens & 20’s now & I cannot stress the convenience of good transport links enough.

BillHadersNewWife · 06/11/2019 07:38

I was going to say the same as Wine once they hit 13 plus and want to go to town, you will be driving them there and picking them up all the time.

Public transport is a MUST for teens.

Rock4please · 06/11/2019 07:38
  1. If you pick 1 you will end up as a full time taxi driver as well as being further away from your family (unless you see that as a positive Grin)
Cuddling57 · 06/11/2019 07:40

Maybe location 2 as with great transport links your house will probably always be worth more and more opportunities for college and jobs for when your kids are teenagers.

Thanks. Head says 2, heart says 1.
