eBay holding funds

HJWT · 05/11/2019 15:04

I made a new eBay account a few months back and have sold 3 things so far, every time eBay has held the funds.

Iv posted an item last week signed for and updated with the tracking number... eBay says they will release the funds on the 15th of nov! It cost me £4.50 to post and same again today with an item cost me £4 to post! So I'm currently £9.50 out of pocket not including fuel and wont be getting the money till mid-end of November 🥴

AIBU to think this is unacceptable and how many times do they do this before they can 'trust' you enough to give the money straight away?

I don't think ill bother anymore and will take my other items down!

YANBU. I fucking hate eBay as a seller.

HJWT · 05/11/2019 15:41

@mustangsly it is VERY annoying, if I didn't post signed for I would never get the money as people always say the item was lost 🧐

As far as I'm aware they do this when you are new to it. Daft I know especially if you want the money.Im not sure how long they do it for. Always, always send tracked and signed for to avoid scammers. Sadly lots of them about on eBay.

I remember when I was new to Ebay and all transactions were paid for via cheque...you'd win, send your cheque off, wait for it to clear, and, if lucky, receive your item about 10 days later.

There were far less scammers, less cheeky fuckers and much less bullshit.

Yes, it's in their terms and conditions that you agreed to, this also protects buyers (and ebay) from unscrupulous sellers.

If you don't like it just sell the items elsewhere, ebay take a big fee and then Paypal take a chunk, yes there are a lot of buyers but with the scammers and ebay rules it hardly seems worth it.

WestSideSnorey · 05/11/2019 15:55

And just to add, if you call eBay on the phone they will release the funds for you if you've proof of delivery. Perhaps that would have been more useful for me to post in the first instance.

It doesn't last long. Last time I sold a few things, they withheld my funds but I've just sold last week and got it cleared right away. I'm a fairly inactive seller too, though I have bought a bit lately. Not sure if that helps the algorithm in any way.
