Hi Mumsnet, after emailing hundreds of hotels with no luck I was hoping someone may be able to help. My 12 year old really wants to visit a spa, does anyone know of anywhere that will offer this? most are 16+...I see 'tween' spa days advertised online down on the south coast but that is too far for me to travel.

Willing to travel anywhere in the north of England / Midlands area! Thank you.....

Hathersage outdoor pool is lovely & cafe too
Does swim to music in summer eves. You would need to check ref children

Matlock Bath hotel & outdoor pool/spa is on my to do list

You could try some wild swimming in seas, lakes, rivers ?

Why not just go to a Bannatynes or similar, spend a couple of hours in the pool and dipping in and out of the sauna, steam room etc and then get your nails done together? Doesn't need to be full spa day.

If you’re in the Midlands try focussing around local non-branded spas in the Leicester / Nottingham area that don’t offer pools etc. Many would be quite happy to do basic things like a teen facial / mani / pedi on a 12 yo. Alternatively you could also go to a local South Asian beautician as many will have 8-12 yo customers.

I thought that there was an age restriction of 14 on saunas and jacuzzis because children aren’t able to regulate their blood temperature as well and are more likely to overheat without realising?

@ Duchessofealing - not sure that’s true as my local gym allows all kids aged 12+ into saunas and jacuzzis. It’s more likely insurance related.

Its not like they'll need to check her passport if the age is 14, as long as she is well behaved and with her mum it'll be fine. Maybe a small white lie will be needed.
