To think Gtech are charlatans

I bought a Gtech vacuum cleaner from Argos in June and a couple of weeks ago it started to make a clanking noise ...I just ignored it and hoped it would stop ( as you do )
Anyway yesterday the right side wheel fell off so I took it back to Argos today and I feel as though I have just been in the twilight zone.
The lovely sales assistant explained that he would have to ring Gtech direct as it was a manufactures warranty. After a few minutes discussion he passed the phone to me .
Firstly the Gtech customer agent told me she would be sending out a replacement wheel with instructions how to fit it.
She said delivery would take between 7 and 10 days as they have a backlog.
I asked if this was a common problem and she said it was particularly with the model I have and that's why they had a backlog.
She then asked me to turn on the cleaner and hoover the floor while she listened over the receiver.......this is in the middle of the shop ...and then said it sounded fine to her Shock
She then said "don't use the machine until you receive the new part" I said that it wasn't reasonable to expect me to not be able to vacuum for 7 - 10 days.
She seemed a bit taken aback that I would be questioning this and explained to me very patiently that she was obliged to give me a delivery date for my benefit as part of Gtech customer service.
I said that that's fair enough but it's not right to expect me to wait so long without a working vacuum cleaner.
So she then said " well you don't want the other wheel to fall off do you ?? Ok then use it and I'll send you out 2 wheels in case the other falls off too !!!!!!!
I was so surprised I never even thought to ask how she could tell my vacuum cleaner was working properly over the phone.
Anyway the Argos assistant was as taken aback as me and said to contact Gtech direct if I have any further problems and ask for a reference number for a replacement as Argos are unable to refund or replace without GTechs agreement.
Please tell me you think this is madness

I don't get it. You need a new wheel, they are sending a new wheel?

SmileyGiraffe · 04/11/2019 17:13

I've had two problems with GTech, contacted Nick directly and it's been sorted both times.

Excellent service.

This is now the manufacturers policy's. I work for Argos , our screen tells us now what we have to do and most of the time the manufacturers don't want to replace products they want to send replacement parts , send items off for repair or do diagnostic checks to see if they can fix over the phone.

This is why we offer the accidental damage and after the manufacturers guarantee insurance , if you have the cover you can take the item into store and get a replacement without having to involve manufacturers .

Some companies will just offer to replace things in-store giving you a reference number but gone are the days where something goes wrong and you just take it back into store. If you saw our returns in store it would blow your mind !!!! It's getting out of hand. A lot of items we can't test so have to take back untested ... Manufacturers can't just afford to replace for a faulty wheel nowadays.

Lockheart · 04/11/2019 17:18

Not sure what the issue is. You have a problem, they're sending you stuff to fix it.

Not hoovering for 7-10 days won't kill you. If your floors are that bad you could always borrow a vacuum from a friend / neighbour / family for the day.

I'll stick with my trusty dysons never let me down over the years

Bought in June? Ask for a full refund from Argos. www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-rights-act

nononever · 04/11/2019 17:21

I had an issue with my vacuum just before the end of the warranty period, phoned up Gtech and they practically replaced the whole thing. I was very impressed.

Ladybirdbookworm · 04/11/2019 17:33

touchofclass
Thanks for that . I'll know in future with regards to Argos warranties. I just thought a 2 year guarantee would be fine.
With the rate I go through vacuums I thought I'd probably be due a new one by then.

That is bizarre! Email the owner, that bloke in the ads. Nick is it? Him with the ‘tidy bales’.

Woodlandwitch · 04/11/2019 19:54

Love my Gtech

Sounds like you might have just had someone inexperienced

ActualHornist · 04/11/2019 19:57

I think you’re being petty.

Mydogmylife · 04/11/2019 19:57

My gtech is fab

Ladybirdbookworm · 05/11/2019 01:01

Petty is a bit strong....I don't mind bring told I'm unreasonable but how am I being petty ? I paid £300 for a vacuum cleaner that has broken after 5 months and the customer service agent listened to the motor over the phone and said it sounded fine ....and that was it. Totally dismissed and the wheel falling off is just the icing on the cake ....yep petty that's me

My Gtech has been pretty shit, when it works it’s fab but I’ve had it a couple of years and pretty much every part has gone wrong. However.... I would buy another one in a heartbeat because every single time something has gone wrong I called them and received a replacement within 2 days maximum, usually next day! I appreciate they shouldn’t go wrong in the first place but they have exceeded any other company I’ve known for service! I bought mine direct from them but not sure that would make any difference? I would call them again and speak to somebody else.

ChloeDecker · 05/11/2019 06:29

This is a very telling statement. I too, am shocked you can’t go 7 days without vacuuming just this one time.

Overuse in such a short space of time (including you continuing to use it whilst it was still making a noise) might explain why the wheel has come off. It’s being fixed. Nothing charlatan about that. Take a little bit of responsibility about this current situation, OP.

SoyDora · 05/11/2019 06:33

I have three young DC (including a crawling baby) and a dog. I hoover every single day, sometimes twice. I have a Shark which has been going strong now for 3 years of twice daily use.
Most people hoover more often than once a week don’t they? That’s not ‘overuse’, it’s just ‘use’.

Triglesoffy · 05/11/2019 06:37

My GTech is rubbish on floor tiles. It pushes dirt around and that’s it

BikeRunSki · 05/11/2019 06:41

Why did you ignore the clanking noise? That’s not use or overuse, but misuse.

Beautiful3 · 05/11/2019 06:49

I love my gtech. My parent have one too. Their customer service is excellent.

They are sending you a replacement part. The rest of its nonsense, the actual issue was addressed.

Sweetdreamer93 · 05/11/2019 09:18

I have 5 vacuum cleaners
X2 gtech
X2 dyson
X1 handheld gtech

All are needed in our house.

The relevance to the post is we all have different needs and lifestyles.

Woodlandwitch · 05/11/2019 11:12

That’s a lot of vacuums

doodaas · 26/09/2024 17:47
