To pull a sickie

Disclaimer: I in no way, shape or form intend to pull off the following, nor do condone it. It's wrong, plain and simple. The whole thread is a lighthearted way to alleviate Sunday night gloom.

So. Sunday night. Got students tomorrow. A huge pile of ironing is laughing in my face. The weather will be dreadful, likely with ice scraping off my car in the morning.

I have the new series of call the midwife downloaded. My coffee jar is full. There is a nice book just begging to be read.

Ah... the gloom between the Halloween and the Christmas season. So, AIBU to pull a Monday sickie tomorrow?

Yes, if I have to go to work so do you or I’ll be jealous.

Cherrysoup · 03/11/2019 21:48

Do it, do it!

I never pull sickies because a) it’s too much bloody hassle to set cover and b) I figure we get enough holidays as a teacher

Littlestlily · 03/11/2019 21:50

You’re looking decidedly peaky imo , it’s only fair you take a day off so not to pass it on Wink

dragonsandfairies · 03/11/2019 21:50

I've just had a week off and really dont want to have to get up in the morning. Can someone call in sick for me too please?

Lyingonthesofainthedark · 03/11/2019 21:53

Don't, because you'll need one a whole lot more after Christmas.

MelbaToast · 03/11/2019 21:55

Pull a sickie then tell me what you called in sick with.

Woodlandwitch · 03/11/2019 21:58

Did you possibly eat some dodgy shellfish this evening?

I’d be off tomorrow just in case, you never know.

MondeoFan · 03/11/2019 21:58

I think no as you can pull a sickie closer to Xmas to have a sneaky Xmas shopping day

SweetPetrichor · 03/11/2019 22:06

My DP's off on annual leave tomorrow - and was for the tail end of last week too. I'm feeling sorry for myself about having to go to work! (And I LIKE my work)

Lozxx · 03/11/2019 22:10

I'm thinking of pulling a sickie🙃 I just want to catch up on sleep and watch Jane the virgin. Work can wait another day I suppose🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Renoirsdancer · 03/11/2019 22:15

I spend half of most Sundays thinking up good reasons to explain my absence from work on Monday. I never do it but the idea of the house to myself, a duvet and some crap telly is very tempting Smile I also tend to spend my Monday morning commute thinking about booking Friday off, I should probably stop wishing my life away Grin

Littlestlily · 03/11/2019 22:15

Yes @dragonsandfairies, defo, if you do it for me too Grin we’ve both got terrible laryngitis and can’t speak Grin

ToPlanZ · 03/11/2019 22:17

No way! Monday and Friday sickies are way too obvious Grin

Sindragosan · 03/11/2019 22:24

Sadly this is why a lot of work places start disciplinary action after 3 bouts of sickness. Impossible to know what is genuine or not so everyone is penalized.

If you went in tomorrow and complained about being tired and feeling off, then had Tuesday and Wednesday off, much more believable.

TheoriginalLEM · 03/11/2019 22:27

Joking aside- i believe some countries have "mental health days" an allocation of a number of days that can be taken for the purpose of self care. I'm sure a south African friend of mine told me this.

So long as people don't take the piss i can only see this as a good thing as thete are days when we just can't

Mammyloveswine · 03/11/2019 22:28

New series of call the midwife??? When did this start?? Thought it wasn't until Christmas??

Whatsername7 · 03/11/2019 22:31

Ive never 'pulled a sickie' in my life. But, the house is clean, the kids will be at nursery/school. Dh will be at work. It could be me, in my pjs, sat on the sofa watching whatever I want snuggling the cat and napping..........Obviously, I couldn't and wouldn't, but Its nice to dream!

DrVonPatak · 03/11/2019 22:39

@Mammyloveswine it's the 8th season. It's new to me because I had a mc just when it aired and I only feel strong enough to face it now. Sorry to disappoint you.

Ah, what I'd give for a duvet day... with lavazza coffee, my pink fluffy pajamas, thermostat cranked to 20 and my cat curled up next to me... bliss.

Ahh so sorry for your loss @DrVonPatak

Fizzypoo · 03/11/2019 22:46

If you pulled a sickie and you haven't done this on a regular basis before, you won't be creating more work for others and you won't be letting anyone down then do it.

We all need a pyjama day sometimes. I actually love my job and if I'm ill I work from home in bed, but I've had physical jobs before where I wasnt I'll but couldn't face going in so stayed in bed.

Enjoy a peaceful day.
