AIBU to complain to utilities company?

So I've signed up for all bills to be covered by a utilities company (think Student house style) and I'm supposed to pay by direct debit every month. I've set up my card details on their website and everything has been done correctly at my end.

I'm now 3 months into the tenancy and no payment has been taken. I've chased this and they've said sorry we didn't set up the payment schedule but we've done it now (meaning my monthly payments are higher - fine). The first payment was supposed to be taken on Nov 1st but still hasn't been deducted. In the past, when a payment failed due to an expired card I got an email straight away so I'm confident it's not an issue of the payment failing.

My question is - is there anything I can do? It's a huge inconvenience having to chase this again and constantly check my account to see if the money has been taken and make sure I have enough in my account to cover it if it's taken unexpectedly. I know legally they can backbill up to 12 months prior but does the situation change if I'm actively chasing them to bill me? It's getting to the point where I won't be able to afford the monthly payments if they keep splitting them across the few remaining months of the tenancy.

Hope this makes sense - any help appreciated!
