How to handle this?

Live in a house share; landlord (who is lovely) has gone away and left me the run of the house. Just found out that two of the main rooms are being repainted when I’d planned to hold a mini party there, next weekend. Painter only works weekends so unlikely to get done in time - basically furniture all piled up and rooms out of use 😭 I’m really upset as it was a big birthday but don’t want to cause disruption... any suggestions?

Hold the party elsewhere, like in a pub?

Was your landlord aware that you had planned to hold a party? Did you ask permission? If not then don't hold the party there.

Are you a lodger or is it a proper house share?

Canyoutelliwentpainting · 03/11/2019 14:29

Yep I got permission!! I’m a lodger

Go to the pub instead. Far better than risking somebody getting a bit overexcited and knocking a full tin of paint over onto a carpet or two pissed people deciding to have a quick shag in your landlord's bed.

Canyoutelliwentpainting · 03/11/2019 14:35

It’s a really sedate dinner so not a shag worthy anything...

Go the pub instead! You can sometimes get room hire free due to the bar spend

Passthecherrycoke · 03/11/2019 14:35

I’d just hold it in a pub I think. You can’t have a party in a half decorated room

comedycentral · 03/11/2019 14:35

Sorry. Didn't realise it was a dinner. Maybe postpone x

MyNewBearTotoro · 03/11/2019 14:38

Had you told your landlord about your plans to hold a party in those rooms on that date and had she said yes?

If yes I would remind her that she’d agreed to you holding a party and just say you were a bit concerned about the decorators. She might have forgotten and may be happy to postpone the painters by another week, she may be confident the painters will be finished by then or she may say you’ll have to find another date or location, but at least if you speak with her you’ll have a better idea of where to go from here.
