Just finished a course of antibiotics. Have horrendous stomach pains. Seem to be coming in waves where I can't move - just crouched on the bathroom floor. Keep going dizzy and hot like I'm about to be sick.

I've tried taking paracetamol, ibruprofen, codine, rennie, gavascon, wind settlers (just incase of trapped wind - pretty certain it's not)

The pain is bad but manageable. however, When the waves come I can't move and hurts so much it's hard to breathe. I have to just curl up on the floor and wait for it to pass.

I've Called 111. They're going to call back within 2 hours. Which seems fine but when a wave comes... It's worse than when I gave birth!

Sounds reasonable. If you have no other way to get to hospital then yes. That kind of pain, with analgesia does not seem normal

Ketomeato · 03/11/2019 01:23

Where is the pain?

Lipperfromchipper · 03/11/2019 01:24

Sounds like your gall bladder perhaps??

InglouriousBasterd · 03/11/2019 01:25

What were the antibiotics for, if you don’t mind me asking? Anything abdominal-related?

Regardless, I think with pain on that level you should call. Paramedics will soon decide if you need hospital.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 03/11/2019 01:25

Why were you taking the antibiotics? What is the pain? Do you have anyone who could drive you to hospital?

Topseyt · 03/11/2019 01:25

I think it is perfectly reasonable to call 999.

Don't take ibuprofen though, especially if you have an empty stomach. It is a gut irritant.

I hope you can get some help soon.

Adogwithabone · 03/11/2019 01:28

Amoxicillin for an ear infection. I couldn't drive as when the wave comes I can't keep my eyes open!

It just feels a bit extreme to call 999 in-between the waves as it hurts but I can still function. It's once I'm in that wave all o can think is 'oh god I need some help' wave lasts about a minute or two. Maybe every 5 mins or so

Sounds like appendicitis

Adogwithabone · 03/11/2019 01:31

The pain is prominently my stomach, just below my boobs. In the middle after my ribcage is shortest. If that makes any sense

InglouriousBasterd · 03/11/2019 01:32

There’s clearly something going on, call the ambulance. (Spoken as someone who has had an ovarian torsion and appendicitis with similar symptoms)

Theresnobslikeshowbs · 03/11/2019 01:35

I had a similar type pain in the same place and they thought it was an ulcer from taking ibuprofen so had to stop them immediately. So maybe something you’ve been taking something irritating like this? (Just my experience)

Homemadearmy · 03/11/2019 01:35

Sounds like gall stones to me too, it's the most pain I've ever had including child birth. Honestly I would call a ambulance. Lots of people to as the pain is awful.

InglouriousBasterd · 03/11/2019 01:36

Cross post! Gallbladder / bile duct possibly? Please call them, don’t lie there alone and in agony.

savingshoes · 03/11/2019 01:37

So you have upper abdominal pain and Nhs 111 advised a speak to two hours?
You need to ask someone to get you to accident and emergency.
It's unlikely that 999 will send you an ambulance any earlier than 40 minutes unless it feels like someone is sitting on you/like someone is squeezing you round your middle or you are breathless too.

squeekums · 03/11/2019 01:37

Better to be safe than sorry
Sounds to me a reasonable reason to call

JasonPollack · 03/11/2019 01:39

Is anyone there with you, or anyone you can call?

Please ring an ambulance, it is always better to be safe. We cannot diagnose you online.

Meshy23 · 03/11/2019 01:42

Yes call the ambulance

If a pain is so severe you can barely think let alone talk that is time to call 999

It sounds like it could be appendicitis which is a medical emergency

TheBouquets · 03/11/2019 01:42

That is the area where they take the Gall Bladder out if they do a full operation as opposed to keyhole surgery.
Please call an ambulance this is not right that you are in this much pain and being left to suffer for two hours before they even phone back.

Jeschara · 03/11/2019 01:43

Call 999.

Italiangreyhound · 03/11/2019 01:44

Call 999 and if there is no ambulance available who can take your hospital. Go to hospital.

XXXXX

TheNestedIf · 03/11/2019 01:47

Could be serious and better safe than sorry when it comes to calling emergency but just to be a bit reassuring, almost half of those things you have taken will make a stomach ache worse rather than better, even if, on paper, they're painkillers.

Hope this turns out OK.

Aveisenim · 03/11/2019 01:47

Appendicitis or gall bladder. Call an ambulance.

MILofnightmares · 03/11/2019 01:54

I would say Gall stones. If you can manage the pain ask 111 not Mumsnet but better to go in than lay there in agony, no one can diagnose your condition with ah possible certainty without seeing you so why take the risk. Hope you're ok. Get well soon

BeanTownNancy · 03/11/2019 01:55

To be honest, any type of severe pain is worth being checked out. I felt silly in the Urgent Care centre after a couple of doctors and nurses told me it was "probably gas", but the next day when I came around after my emergency appendectomy I was glad I trusted my gut... Excuse the pun. 😉

Bluerussian · 03/11/2019 01:56

All the best. Please let us know how you get on.
