Just finished a course of antibiotics. Have horrendous stomach pains. Seem to be coming in waves where I can't move - just crouched on the bathroom floor. Keep going dizzy and hot like I'm about to be sick.

I've tried taking paracetamol, ibruprofen, codine, rennie, gavascon, wind settlers (just incase of trapped wind - pretty certain it's not)

The pain is bad but manageable. however, When the waves come I can't move and hurts so much it's hard to breathe. I have to just curl up on the floor and wait for it to pass.

I've Called 111. They're going to call back within 2 hours. Which seems fine but when a wave comes... It's worse than when I gave birth!

No fat at all if you can help it. It’s the worst trigger. A tea spoonful of bicarbonate of soda in a small glass of water helped me, it relived sone pressure. But removal was the only cure. It’s dreadful pain, sympathies!

I was on a waiting list to have my gallbladder out but it took too long and I couldn't handle any more attacks so ended up paying for it privately. Still paying it off but worth every penny. I'd been suffering for nearly two years through misdiagnoses and the pains were getting worse and more frequent. Wound up in a&e several times. The op was just under £5k. Get yourself on the NHS waiting list and keep fingers crossed that it'll happen faster for you. Definitely avoid fats, esp deep fried food, but mine were quite random by the end so I couldn't avoid them.

Oh and none of the various remedies helped, except for the morphine in a&e, but that's not a great option.

I had my gallbladder taken out. The pain was worse than childbirth and I ended up with pancreatitis because I’d waited so long before being seen about the on/off pain.
A few months back I was in agony with my stomach and had to ring 111. I’m not sure what was wrong but I was up all night in pain and they called me a couple of times to check. Was quite scared as my pain threshold is high so when I’m in actual pain, I thought I must be on my way out 😨

Do you have any buscopan? It's used for IBS, but when I had biliary collic in pregnancy I was given some by my consultant. Didn't stop the pain, but minimised the spasms.

OP you have my sympathies, I suffered for years with gallbladder pain- wrongly assuming it was heartburn and self medicating with gaviscon which of course didn't help at all.

When I met my now DH he convinced me that the pain pointed to something more serious and I finally got checked out and diagnosed.

I know that awful feeling of constant pain, with intermittent waves of excruciating pain that makes you want to climb out of your own body. it floored me and I could not get up, even if the room had been on fire!

I was very lucky at the time as I had private healthcare so didn't have to wait long to have my gallbladder removed.

I was up and about the next day, and back at work two days later feeling fine and so so glad to have the nagging fear of another attack behind me. I used to be so afraid that it would come on when I was driving, caring for DC or working as I was so totally incapacitated by it that I literally couldn't move off the floor.

From what I understand the NHS wait can be a while dependent on a number of criteria. I hope you don't have to wait too long. I've had absolutely no regrets that I've had it removed so I'd advise you to push for this if you can.

In the mean time you may find that avoiding fatty food, and not eating on a very empty stomach helps.

If it is gallstones I was told no fat but also, nothing spicy nd no alcohol - basically nothing that might disturb your stomach.

On the plus side once I had gall bladder out was fine and lost nearly 3 stone on the low fat diet.

Ooh this thread just popped up on my feed and an early posters description of being bent double on the floor, arse in the air is so true. I suffer gallstone attacks. Come out of nowhere. And this is the most comfortable (whilst still not comfortable) position I can get in. Squishing the crap out of my tummy, and if someone can rub my back at the same time mores the better.

@Sewingbea yea I find myself breathing like you are taught for a contraction when the wave pain hits. Get some funny looks if I'm out!! Grin
