My chilli is on the hob and simmering away, but I need to go out Shock

Can I pause on cooking it and just turn it back on when I get home?
Can I put it in the oven?

What would you do?

How long has it been cooking? How long are you going out for? Can you just put a lid on it and turn the hob off?

Brexitstash · 01/11/2019 17:42

Turn it off then reheat when you get back. I'd put it in the slow cooker but appreciate you might not have one

WoollyFoolly · 01/11/2019 17:42

How long are you out for? I would either switch to a slow cooker if you have one or put it in the oven

Frouby · 01/11/2019 17:44

It will be ok as long as the beef has been cooked through enough. If you would take a mouthful now and not get food poisoning you will be fine.

BlobbyTheLump · 01/11/2019 17:45

Fucking slow cooker went poof this morning which is why I'm doing it on the hob Angry
I'll be out for about an hour, got to drop someone to the walk-in centre and then I'm driving straight home.

I don't know if I leave it on low at home if it'll burn.
I've only been cooking it for about an hour and a half. It needs a bit more of a simmer.

Yet I'm worried that if I turn it off and reheat it again I'll give everyone food poisoning.
Thank you both.

If its beef it will be fine, I would turn it off then re-heat later. Just don't re-heat it a second timeSmile

BlobbyTheLump · 01/11/2019 17:48

The beef is 100% cooked enough, I've tasted it.

I'm overthink everything and think I'll poison people.

Stick the lid on it’ll be fine. Don’t leave it turned on.

AgnesNaismith · 01/11/2019 17:53

Put it in the oven! I always put my chilli in the oven on low, sometimes for hours....it’ll be fine!

NoSauce · 01/11/2019 17:54

1.5 hours? It should be cooked now surely? Turn it off and heat it up when you get home.

pickingdaisies · 01/11/2019 17:56

Lid on, turn it off. No problem reheating it as long it's cooked through and hot throughout. The reheating thing is for rice, it's fine for chilli.

CravingCheese · 01/11/2019 17:56

The beef is cooked. So why would that be an issue? Or are you planning on being out for an extended amount of time?

Turn it off. Do what you usually would do with your finished chili. Reheat it / let it finish cooking when you return home

SamBeckett · 01/11/2019 17:56

I second sticking it in the oven , bung it in a casserole dish or even the crock pot from the slow cooker covered in foil ( unless the lid/ handle is heat proof )

BlobbyTheLump · 01/11/2019 17:59

I like to simmer my chilli for a good while, but yes the beef is cooked.
I was just worried about reheating it but as @pickingdaisies said that's for rice and I think that's where I've become panicked.

I'm going to turn it off and reheat it when I get back.
Thank you all! Grin

(And I'm sorry for the panic..)
