TO think it’s disgusting to chew gum with your mouth open?

I’m sat on a bus and there’s a woman opposite me who is chewing gum like she’s a cow chewing cud. I can hear every chew and her mouth is wide open. When people are chewing gum why do they think it’s acceptable to make a noise and chew with their mouths open? It really makes my skin crawl.

YANBU. Someone at my work does this and the noise is so squelchy.

Biancadelrioisback · 01/11/2019 16:42

My boss (who sits directly opposite me) does this and I have to put headphones in when he does. Every day, after lunch.
He thinks it's just my routine but I can't cope with the noise. I already had to ask him to stop whistling (random songs that were in his head, not even the music that's playing in the office) as that made me want to jump out of a window. He also constantly drums his fingers, shakes his leg and taps his foot. I've tried to swap desks but I can't get anyone to take it!

I'm with you OP and you have my sympathy.

YANBU, it's disgusting to chew anything with mouth open.

witherwings · 01/11/2019 16:46

It's making my skin crawl just thinking about any of these people

Didntwanttochangemyname · 01/11/2019 16:47

Absolutely revolting. Chewing or eating with your mouth open should be punishable by death!

CruCru · 01/11/2019 16:48

I must admit that I’m always quite shocked by people chewing gum at work. I used to work with a guy who would chew right next to my ear while we were looking at stuff on a screen. Ugh.

MapMyMum · 01/11/2019 16:49

I was about to say word for word what @witherwings said YANBU

Livedandlearned · 01/11/2019 17:23

I have to leave the staffroom when certain colleagues have their break at the same time as me. I tried to cope but it's impossible.

DappledThings · 01/11/2019 17:56

I think it's horrible whether their mouth is open or not. When I'm despotic empress of the world I will ban it entirely!

Oldraver · 01/11/2019 18:01

Yep, there used to be a woman on chekout in one of the supermarkets that did this. I avoided her as it made me heave

Moneypenny007 · 01/11/2019 18:02

Yes I cant abide it either. What kind of animal thinks anyone wants to hear or see their food as it's being chewed.

My mil has a habit of sitting mouth open, full, if you discuss something when eating.
For example if we are having a meal and a discussion strikes up. She will stop chewing, look at you, almost mouthing what you are saying until you finish talking.
It's awful.

TheNestedIf · 01/11/2019 18:05

I ended up, at one point, refusing to join our daily conference calls due to someone doing this down the phone. It was sickening.

itllneverfitinthecar · 01/11/2019 18:16

Chewing gum with your mouth closed is almost as revolting. Anyone that does this should look at themselves chewing in the mirror until they grasp just how vile it is for other people to have to watch.
