AIBU to use wine?

We’re on a self catering holiday and I’ve forgotten to bring cooking oil. Is it ok to fry sausages in red wine? And is it ok to feed to young kids?

Yes, and yes. The alcohol will be ‘cooked off’.

Ffsnosexallowed · 31/10/2019 17:58

Why would you waste wine like that?

PurpleDaisies · 31/10/2019 17:58

You don’t need oil, the sausages will have enough fat.

bridgetreilly · 31/10/2019 18:00

They won't fry in wine. Just cook them as they are. I never add extra oil for sausages. Also I would bake them in the oven, rather than cook on the stove. Easier to make sure they are cooked through without being burned.

Mamagin · 31/10/2019 18:00

Nooooooooo! What a waste of wine! Don't you have any butter? Or just prick them and cook reeeeaaaally slowly, the fat should leak out of the sausages. Or grill them.

MarigoldGlove · 31/10/2019 18:01

Just chuck them in the pan. Sausages don't need oil. They are self oiling.

CupoTeap · 31/10/2019 18:02

Put them under the grill or in the oven. I'm sure ww used to say a little bit of water

TheoriginalLEM · 31/10/2019 18:02

Are you mad??? Have you by any butter? whatreasonablepersonwastesgoodwinelikethat

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 31/10/2019 18:02

But drink the wine!

ElleDubloo · 31/10/2019 18:03

Thanks for the reply. Indeed they do self oil. I didn’t know that!

Could you grill them instead?

Theresnobslikeshowbs · 31/10/2019 18:04

Drink the wine and the sausages will fry in their own fat.

ElleDubloo · 31/10/2019 18:08

It’s actually a cheap bottle of wine opened 2 days ago, so I’m not being too wasteful Wink

AlexaAmbidextra · 31/10/2019 18:25

But the wine won’t help them to fry. There’s no fat in it. You might as well put them in water. But as others have said, they have enough fat in them to fry as they are.

Bluesheep8 · 31/10/2019 18:54

I do mine in the oven. No oil.
