I don't know why my DiLs consider Halloween the perfect time for me to put an AMA in AIBU, but as you know, I am always happy to help. Halloween Smile

You may wonder how I got into AIBU while you were out, well I had my own set of keys cut, I knew you wouldn't mind. I must say the place was absolutely filthy and I have had to give it a good scrubbing (I tidied up your knicker drawer while I was at it), don't worry I don't expect any thanks! Now it is looking a little better and I have time to put my feet up with a cuppa and answer some of your questions. I have opened that naice box of chocolates I found in the bottom of your wardrobe, waste not, want not I always say.

I consider myself an expert on most subjects so do feel free to ask me anything you like. Here are a few FAQS to get you started:

Should I go to MiL for Christmas? Of course, I have already got the sprouts on and nearly finished knitting you a hideous jumper with one arm slightly too short. It should be most jolly.

We have already named dd 1 after MiL, should I name dd2 after my own mother? There's no need to choose a family name for your second, I would go with a flower name, something classic like Rose (coincidentally my own middle name).

Are you in favour of Brexit? Yes, I am sorry for my friends who have retired to Spain, but I'm afraid it's a necessary first step towards restoring the Empire in time for our dear Queen's centenary year. I am not so naive as to think it will all be smooth sailing though, and I am certainly not adverse to a bit of "prepping". I have built up quite a stockpile myself. Luckily your FiL is partial to spam.

What do you think of trick-or-treating and should I decorate the house for Halloween? Quite frankly no-one would notice the difference if you turned your house into a ghastly hovel festooned with cobwebs so I shouldn't waste your time. As for trick-or-treating I used to think it a vulgar American practice not that much different to demanding money with menaces, but then I found out that, in fact it is all based on the ancient Scottish tradition of Guising so that is absolutely fine.

Now I look forward to answering any other questions you may have for me so ask away.

Divide and conquer is one of my parenting strategies, when you aren't there i always boast about your dc to your SiL, she hates it you will be glad to hear.

Oh shit, it’s my mother. Everyone run! Save yourselves!

crispysausagerolls · 01/11/2019 08:47

Someone could do a DIL thread to even it out! I wouldn’t mind being made fun of!

MrsToothyBitch · 01/11/2019 08:59

Are you volunteering, @Crispy? Halloween Grin

TheGlitterFairy · 01/11/2019 09:01

Why do you insist on being manipulative over Christmas arrangements despite being told that we’re looking into dates and will confirm soon?

VisibleShantiLine · 01/11/2019 09:05

You realise there is no winner in any of what you've done, right? Especially not you.

VisibleShantiLine · 01/11/2019 09:14

You can tell me. NO ONE will ever be your favourite daughter in-law because no woman will ever be good enough for your sons - right?

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 01/11/2019 11:39

I'm a mother in law of three and I'm loving this thread. Mind you I am reading the comments very carefully, (thinking I let my in-laws off a bit too lightly really, they don't seem to appreciate how lucky they are).

BuzzingtheBee · 01/11/2019 11:45

Do you really make my children be quiet because your dog gets scared, when DH takes them to visit you?🙄

crispysausagerolls · 01/11/2019 16:10

mrstoothybitch

I’m not witty enough, sadly! I could try... better OP do one

belay · 01/11/2019 16:16

why do ask to go for a carvery every week when we can't fit it in with full time work and dc sports activities??

BillywilliamV · 01/11/2019 16:20

Why the carvery at all? Especially at 1pm on Sunday, it’s hellish. Queues are horrendous and the food is shite?

ShagMeRiggins · 01/11/2019 16:36

Perhaps I'll start a thread poking fun at first time Mums obsessing over baby yoga and the like.

That’s been done. Search PFB. I think it’s in Classics. Best one for me was the mother who parked near A&E when introducing her PFB to a new food when weaning.

OP, I don’t know who you are, but you’re brilliant and subversive. Keep up the good work.

Ps—my mother-in-law is amazing, so I’ve no questions for your AMA

saraclara · 01/11/2019 17:42

I'm reading this thread as a 'MIL strikes back' bit of fun. Not a 'poking fun at MILs' thing at all!

BertrandRussell · 01/11/2019 17:44

The trouble is, the questions people are asking are mostly not funny. Many of them are serious and sad.And the answers are playing into the Les Dawson stereotype.

CocoLoco87 · 01/11/2019 18:07

I'm sort of with @BertrandRussell on this one. It's half funny like "I'm Alan, AMA" but there are some really sad questions/ comments.

But in the spirit that the OP means the thread... Am I your fave DIL? because you're like a second mum to me Smile
