Job offered but no interview

dididrogba · 31/10/2019 15:07

I've recently graduated and been looking for work for 1 month without much success. I am now struggling badly for money.

I got an interview to become a carer today. I prepared lots for it and have quite a lot of experience.

When I got to the interview the woman who was meant to interview me was eating her lunch and she gave me forms to fill in including the interview prompt guide and answers. I said am I meant to fill this in, she said yes.

Did these forms, she didn't read them and said induction starts tomorrow. Gave me my uniform and sent me on my way.

Aibu to think this is the most bizarre way ever to get a job? I feel kinda deflated.

I think they are probably desperate for people to work as carers so are not that fussy thorough in their interviewing.

AliceLittle · 31/10/2019 15:16

That's about right for carers. They're desperate and usually a huge turnover of staff.

Sevo7 · 31/10/2019 15:18

Did you fill in an application that the manager has looked at? I’ll be honest sometimes care homes are desperate for staff and I’ve also known them hire people without interview,or look through applications ring a few people and offer them all an induction and see who actually turns up!

The best one was for a cleaner, a women came in who was a friend of another staff member, handed us her application which the owner didn’t even look at but said “you look clean and tidy, the job yours” I was so annoyed as I’d spent ages going through applications and arranging interviews for later that day! Confused

VanyaHargreeves · 31/10/2019 15:20

This exact thing happened to a friend - she was absolutely shitting it as she'd had a run in with the police as a minor and was worried it would impact her

There was no interview and they just said When can you start?

Care agencies are DESPERATE for staff though, often low pay, demanding work, demanding hours and high staff turnover means constant fighting fires with staffing availability versus demand

Don't take it personally

Honeybee85 · 31/10/2019 15:20

A bit strange and might actually be a red flag. Interviews are a two way street. Not only for them to decide if you are fit for the job but also to give you the chance to get a better impression of them and therefor to be able to make an informed decision about accepting an eventual job offering.
They have now taken that opportunity away from you. Definetly not a good example of a proper ‘candidate experience ‘.

MidnightBlue28 · 31/10/2019 15:26

When I worked in care I couldn’t start until they’d had my two references and a DBS check (before the DBS update service came into being).

Sevo7 · 31/10/2019 15:29

That’s true, have you got a transferable DBS? They shouldn’t be starting you without a DBS in place and references (although I’ve known plenty of references also be faked by management when they were desperate for staff!)

Redcrayons · 31/10/2019 15:36

I’d be a bit concerned that their standards are pretty low. It doesn’t sound great, but if you’re desperate for money then go for it but keep looking elsewhere.

Redcrayons · 31/10/2019 15:37

FYI don’t mean their standards are low because they employed you. That they don’t do any kind of checking. Sorry when I reread my post I sounded quite horrible and dismissive.

MsChatterbox · 31/10/2019 15:45

If you are absolutely desperate for money then take it. But there will be a reason they cannot keep staff and therefore desperate to hire someone.

Nanny0gg · 31/10/2019 15:49

If I was in need of care that approach would terrify me.

JustAnotherMammi · 31/10/2019 16:41

That's the care industry, they're always in need of caters. My OH is a career, worked in a few different places and they hire pretty much anyone as long as they pass the DBS.
