To want to get rid of neighbour's parcel

MilliePotts · 30/10/2019 15:06

So two months ago I signed for a parcel for another flat. It's a big crate of beer (can tell because of the packaging and the noise it makes!) and they've never come for it.

Knocked on their door three times to no answer. It's from Hermes so they'll be able to see that it's been left here (I've put in the tracking number on the label to check). A few days - fine - but two months is just rude. I'm getting annoyed seeing it in my (not large) hallway.

Not sure where I stand on this. If I leave it outside their door and it gets nicked, it'll still have my name as the one who signed for it!

Wait until you know they're at home (e.g., lights on after dark), put it on their doorstep, knock on the door, and walk away.

Bellaxx8 · 30/10/2019 15:08

Knock a couple of more times ...

They might not know you have it if a card wasn’t left.

GenderfreeJoe · 30/10/2019 15:08

That's weird. Have you put a note through the door?

Winterdaysarehere · 30/10/2019 15:08

Drink it all and repack the empties....
Tell them it was storage costs...

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 30/10/2019 15:08

It's been 2 months. I think I would drink it then deny all knowledge.

Finfintytint · 30/10/2019 15:09

Just put a note through their door.
They may have reported as undelivered and have already received a replacement.

Thiswayorthatway · 30/10/2019 15:09

Note through the door from you, collect by a certain date or you will dispose of it (glug, glug)

TheReluctantCountess · 30/10/2019 15:09

How odd. Maybe it was a gift and they don’t actually know about it.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 30/10/2019 15:09

Have you actually put a note thru the door?

Write one saying "Thanks for the generous gift of a crate of beer. Cheers!"

They'll be round like a shot

Ponoka7 · 30/10/2019 15:11

Put a note through the door.

I don't know why you haven't already done so.

blahblahblahblahhh · 30/10/2019 15:11

Just leave it on their door step.

CurryAndCobra · 30/10/2019 15:12

What Squiffany said.

CustardySergeant · 30/10/2019 15:14

Do you know whether they've been in the flat in the last 2 months? Could they be away and had expected the delivery before they left?

TooMuch87 · 30/10/2019 15:18

You've had a massive crate of beer sitting in your flat for two months and you've only tried knocking on their door three times since then? I'd be knocking three times a day until I got rid of the thing. Put a note through their door and if they don't collect it by the end of the week then leave the parcel on their doorstep.

Purplejay · 30/10/2019 15:18

I would have put a note through ages ago. If they didn’t get a card, they will have no clue you have it!

feelingsinister · 30/10/2019 15:22

Why didn't you put a note through two months ago? Hermes never leave cards here, it's infuriating.

I once lost a parcel on my street because the courier couldn't remember where they'd left it.

NormaBean · 30/10/2019 15:22

Maybe it’s a gift to you.

Drink it.

Sallyseagull · 30/10/2019 15:24

Put a note through and say yoube had it for so long that you'll hold it another 7 days then itll be disposed of.

saraclara · 30/10/2019 15:26

You can't be that annoyed by it if two months of it in your hall has only seem you knock on the door three times.

Haworthia · 30/10/2019 15:27

Two months? It’s yours now. If you don’t drink, give it away.

strongswans · 30/10/2019 15:29

Hermes have never left a card for me either. Luckily me neighbour is really good. Not sure why you haven't already but I'd put a note through their door

saraclara · 30/10/2019 15:30

...And yes, I've had things left with neighbours that Hermes hasn't told me about. And one of my neighbours was pretty snippy about coming round to bring one of them to me, because obviously she was expecting me to be the one to make the effort and collect it.

Toffeecakes · 30/10/2019 15:33

3 times in 2 months? If they work then you’ve probably missed them. You should have left it outside their door by now.

MilliePotts · 30/10/2019 15:34

They're two floors up so carrying the crate up and down the stairs isn't fun - hence only 3 trips. Any time I pass I do look to check for lights being on.

The reason I didn't put a note through in the first place was that's it's tracked and putting in the tracking number shows it's here. Generally Hermes give you texts and so forth too. Agree though, it's probably the best option now.

I don't even like beer Grin
