To go trick or treating on Wednesday?

Kids adore Halloween, but I can't go on Thursday night. Would it be weird to take them on Wednesday?

The only way you could do this is if you took them to friends’ houses who were aware that you were calling on Weds instead of Thursday. However, unless your children are very young, that probably won’t go down too well with them. Can you get someone else to take them on Thursday?

Sometimes kids miss out on stuff. It's not the end of the world for them to realise that they can't always do the things they like.

Myimaginaryfamiliarhasfleas · 28/10/2019 20:22

Didn't want them associating new baby with missing out on Halloween fun

You could call the baby Damian. Halloween Grin

Trick or treating is just begging strangers for stuff.

meh, it's people willingly giving away a few sweets to kids, not kids pleading poverty.

You don't like it, don't join, it's not hard. Some people love it and go all out for the neighbourhood. No need to be so cranky.

Well, as we abide by the ‘only if the house is decorated’ rule, as does everyone I know, and the house occupants are usually standing at the door with a tub of sweets bought especially for the occasion, is that begging? Certainly when they come to my house, with my lit pumpkin demonstrating that I’m open to visitors, with my sweets bought especially for the occasion, I don’t think they are begging from me.

Why don't you make a Halloween hunt? Like easter hunt, but bit scarier. You can send them out in a garden with flashlights, put few spooky things around and hvae them find their sweets

Snugglepumpkin · 28/10/2019 21:10

Where I live, if you are dumb enough to answer the door you will find a crowd of children who demand cash rather than sweets.
Half of them don't even bother to stick on a black bin bag & call it a costume.
It's not just the teenagers who act like that.

I don't decorate but people knock anyway.

Lulu1919 · 28/10/2019 21:12

Could you arrange with a few neighbours to be ready for you on Wednesday ??
Otherwise like others say ...nobody will be expecting to give out sweets

You either don't know what begging is or you're doing trick of treating wrong, what a stupid comment

GingersAreLush · 28/10/2019 21:20

I’d not send your children away empty handed as if not want to upset them but I’d think you as the parent was taking the piss. Also trick or treating isn’t just about the sweets it’s also the excitement and atmosphere. There won’t be that atmosphere on Wednesday as no children will be out and about and most of the houses probably won’t be decorated yet.

sheshootssheimplores · 28/10/2019 21:20

I wish we could as Thursday is going to rain all day and evening round where I live. So it’s g to be a wash out.
