Kids adore Halloween, but I can't go on Thursday night. Would it be weird to take them on Wednesday?

How late is too late?
Once pumpkins are no longer lit. Around 8pm -8.30pm round here.

Or Friday😉

CanThingsChange35 · 28/10/2019 16:46

I'm not opening my door on bloody Friday either Hmm

SoyDora · 28/10/2019 16:58

How late is too late?

Pumpkins are usually all in by around 7pm here, most earlier.

Sunflowersok · 28/10/2019 17:03

Wow am I the only one who thinks everyone else is being unreasonable??

HavelockVetinari · 28/10/2019 17:08

Ah I'd give out sweets early to little ones but not to teenagers - however, most people won't have anything in, so get a few friends to agree to an early visit.

MsTSwift · 28/10/2019 17:08

You can’t would be really weird and house after house will be Hmm cringe

BeanBag7 · 28/10/2019 17:10

Do you have a friend who could take them on Thursday with their own kids?

crimsonlake · 28/10/2019 17:11

I am against going around knocking doors on Halloween, we always celebrated it in the house, decorations, party food, games and always hide and seek in the dark. Do something like that, even the night before.

Pinkblueberry · 28/10/2019 17:11

No, sorry. You can’t go around people’s houses on random days begging for sweets. As pp said there’s a pretty well known unwritten rule now that unless there’s a pumpkin lit outside trick or treaters aren’t really welcome - so where would you even knock?

Ellisandra · 28/10/2019 17:12

Do you have many friends locally? You can pre-arrange to visit them.

I was being sarcastic.... Halloween Grin

@Ginfordinner I plan to bring pumpkins & decorations in around 7.30 as I have a 3yo that's usually in bed at 7. He's staying up a bit later to help me hand out sweeties and greet guisers. He has a full day in nursery on Friday then a party on Friday evening or I'd keep them out til 8.

Previous years we seem to get lots of people between 6&7 ish which suits me fine.

Beautiful3 · 28/10/2019 17:30

No you cant! It's only on the 31st. Noone will be prepared I.e. sweets. Also unfair to expect people to welcome trick or treaters, all evening over the next few nights!!! 🤣

00100001 · 28/10/2019 17:35

@Sunflowersok

You think it's reasonable to go round trick or treating on the wrong day?

You'd be fine with people knocking on your door each night for say, 5 nights?

LilyJade · 28/10/2019 17:49

I had neighbours call round with their toddlers the Saturday after Halloween once.
I had to give them cereal bars & apples.

ThatMuppetShow · 28/10/2019 17:57

Wow am I the only one who thinks everyone else is being unreasonable??

Confused

for not being Halloween ready when it's not Halloween?

Mamabear88 · 28/10/2019 17:58

Wednesday is not Halloween, so I for one won't have any sweets to hand out that day and I think most people will be the same. Is there not someone who could take your kids on the actual day if you can't? Or change your plans Thurs. Bit unreasonable to expect others to be dealing with trick or treaters days either side...

Willow2017 · 28/10/2019 18:31

Wow am I the only one who thinks everyone else is being unreasonable??

Err yes.
Would you turn up to someone house for Xmas dinner on Xmas eve?

Halloween is 31st the one day for guisers. Unless it's traditional to do it another day like some places. Nobody is going to be expecting people any other day. It's a bit obvious really.

StoneofDestiny · 28/10/2019 18:32

Just wish people would respect the 'no pumpkin outside', no trick or treaters. There are a whole host of people who won't want people rattling their door all night on 31st.

MrsMonkeyBear · 28/10/2019 18:43

Even though our decorations are already up, I won't have any treats in until the 31st. In fact I'll be turning my doorbell off on Wednesday as I know we will get some kids knocking.

SoyDora · 28/10/2019 19:35

Wow am I the only one who thinks everyone else is being unreasonable??

Do you have your treats/pumpkins etc ready go 24 hours in advance? I don’t. If people came to ours the day before Halloween we’d be in our usual evening routine of homework/dinner/baths etc. We certainly wouldn’t be waiting by the door with sweets. I’ll pick the sweets on from the supermarket on Thursday so they’d likely get an apple and a banana.

Petrichor11 · 28/10/2019 19:47

YWBU and weird unless with prearranged friends

If you can’t go Thursday then you can’t go at all.

00100001 · 28/10/2019 19:53

Can't they just go out with their relatives?

Snugglepumpkin · 28/10/2019 19:53

Trick or treating is just begging strangers for stuff.
It's bad enough being harassed in your own home by random people who think you should give their kids stuff just because they want you to, without also turning up on a different day with your hands out.

On Halloween, we ignore the door (& I've never taken my sons out begging door to door).
I don't decorate for Halloween anywhere that can be seen from the street.

Try it another night when I am not expecting it which means I won't know to ignore the door & you won't like the reaction.
