House guest jumping whenever I'm in a room

It's just weird!

This is my house, she knows it's my house, so why, every morning, does she feel the need to do this over exaggerated jump when I'm downstairs in the kitchen. Surely it's expected that someone will be in their own kitchen having breakfast in the morning?!

I always startle at my husband bursting into rooms when I’m not expecting it. I’ve not got a history of abuse or anything. I’m just a bit jumpy if he’s moving around quietly! I can usually hear people/pets coming so it makes me jump if they’re quiet. I don’t get what the big deal is!

I have recently noticed that I startle a bit sometimes when my dh comes into the room i'm in. I haven't forgotten that he livess here and I haven't undergone trauma. He jumps at my entrance sometimes too. It may be that we're absorbed in our own thoughts when the other approaches, that's possible. However, he knows I'm in, say, the kitchen, when he goes in and I'm the one who's startled, not the other way around.

I've no idea why your lodger would be startled finding you in the kitchen, and i really do think it's up to her to remind herself as she approaches the door that you are likely to be there.

I think you could suggest nicely that she does that.

Off topic, but I've found myself jumpy more recently. I've been diagnosed with a few chronic conditions so think that's impacted strangely.

MiniMum97 · 27/10/2019 17:06

I'm a jumpy person. I jump out of my skin when I am concentrating and someone walks near me or says my name when I am at work and surrounded by people all the time!

I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned the Sistine Chapel yet Grin

Do you live in a large old haunted mansion op

How long has she been a houseguest for and how long is she staying for?

onthecoins · 27/10/2019 17:51

MIL?

Yeah your house guest sounds a bit unhinged. Maybe mention therapy and or medication. That ain’t normal!
