Recycling

I’m thinking about recycling more and more, but I live in a flat and am wondering how other people do it. The council collect recycling on Mondays if it’s left outside in a bag but I have nowhere to collect and store it all week.

I was googling recyclable wrapping paper and thought what’s the point when I don’t even recycle anyway 😳 kind of just occurred to me that stuff doesn’t get recycled when I chuck it in the normal bin.

If you wash everything out (jars / tins - which you're supposed to do anyway) then store them in a bag for life or those hard wearing shopping bags then take it all out on a Monday. If it's all cleaned then it won't smell.

Or perhaps get a cardboard box from a supermarket when you do your shop, store it in that & then leave the whole lot out to be collected, box & all.

I have literally nowhere to keep it though.

On top of fridge? By the door? If it’s older flats do you have a cupboard in the hall? Under the bed? Behind the couch? Haven’t been in your house so wouldn’t have the slightest clue on where you could sit a storage container.

Ours is collected in a trolley system so we sit ours on the counter and take it out daily to the trolley. Is there a space where your bins are kept?

Where do you currently keep your waste? If you're recycling, you should need less space for that.

My mum has a couple of bags for life hanging in her hall that she puts recycling in

smileylottie87 · 27/10/2019 18:15

Or maybe replace your current bin with a split bin? One side for rubbish and the other for recycling

Slightlydisillusioned · 27/10/2019 18:17

IKEA do stackable rubbish storage containers. We have one for recycling, one with a bin bag in for general waste and one smaller one for food waste. They take up hardly any space at all.
