You are their entire world

After a busy week where I've had to leave DDog home alone a little more than usual (she usually goes most places with me) I am reminded how their whole little worlds really do centre around us, their owners. I get the impression she is feeling a little insecure this week - each evening without fail she has bumbled up the stairs and onto the main bed to join me, quietly snuggled up against my legs with her paws over her sweet, innocent face, snoozing. She's generally a very independent dog and usually at this time of the evening she'd be downstairs taking over the sofa, but this week she just wants to be close-by.

I'm not ashamed to say I adore every little hair on her precious body Grin and I'm sure I'm not the only one who treasures their DDog. AIBU to cherish every little moment with her and say never take for granted the fact that you are the entire world to your dog?

I may never be a perfect human but when she looks at me and chooses to spend her time curled up with me, that's about as close as I'll ever feel Grin

Awwww a nice thread on here for a change.

Made me very teary.
My old girl was diagnosed with kidney disease 2 months ago. We have changed her diet and started medication as suggested and had follow up blood test results yesterday.
It hasn't stabilised or improved and it showed progression.
My days with her are numbered and my heart hurts.

Carrot that's very similar to what happened with our dog (although not kidney). We spent the last week doing as much that we could that he loved. We lit the fire so he could lounge in front of it, we put fresh blankets on his bed every night (he loved clean bedding!), he has bacon for breakfast, had a lie in with me (other dogs were banned!), had a huge bone the morning that he was PTS. If it helps, once he was gone I got some comfort from the fact that he wasn't suffering and we'd done all we could for him. Obviously I miss him like crazy, but it doesn't somehow hurt as much as the stage you're at did, because he's not hurting/declining. Hope that helps/doesn't seem weird.

Hugs to you. Treasure your time.

We have three dogs .Our eldest is a springer who is getting on for 16yrs old but can still jump up on the bed and who does not like being moved off it Grin.
I am very aware that we are lucky as he has gone over the usual age for a spaniel. The other night much to my husband bemusement jumped on the bed decided to lie in the middle and barked at the poor cat who wanted to sleep next to me too .He is very much my dog and thinking about the fact one day we are not going to have him makes me really Sad.

I adore my dog. He's like another child to me. He's spoilt rotten. He also likes to walk round with socks in his mouth.

Damneddog

Those are lovely pics - (all the dogs on here are lovely) - but the sight of that pudgy puppy, plus an ancient boxer and a cat who obviously thinks he's the boss of the dogs is a classic.

I takeout you were getting their dinner ready? (or yours?)

HoliBobber · 28/10/2019 23:21

DF has a dog who I visit twice a year. She always remembers me. She absolutely goes nuts when I walk into the room - I feel so special [grins]. She charges at me with her blanket and parades round with it in her mouth. I've totally fallen for her. She has these floppy ears and soft head and she would lick my freckles off if she could.

Thank you Rat - ages since I read The Oatmeal, and this was a good one.

@mimiasovitch

I’m having little weep here. Luckily for both of us, I found my old boy before Death did. He was so sad and frightened, it took him a while to become the funny, naughty sweetheart he was meant to be, but I have such happy memories of him.

My two are being angels today - I had surgery yesterday and they were the best to come home to. They usually err on the enthusiastic side for greeting us, but they were so gentle while still overjoyed I was home. Gone weepy again, I’m going to blame the painkillers!

This thread has made me cry too! We lost our dog PTS at 13, he was such an adorable dog, we had him from a pup, Ds’s arrived from when he was 7, he accepted the babies as they came along, never showed any jealousy, he also loved our cats to bits. I miss him every single day. Never got another dog, just couldn’t go through that heartbreak again.

Spidey66 · 29/10/2019 07:55

My lovely Maggie, who has turned our world upside down, and who we love dearly for.

Oh God I'm sat here in tears with our 40kg Lab sat on my lap
He's almost a year old and our first ever dog. I wasn't that fussed about getting a puppy but omg he's totally stolen my heart.
I'm with him for most of the day as DH and DS are at work.
Those soulful brown eyes just melt my heart. He still follows me from room to room and when DS and DH come home he nearly turns himself inside out with excitementGrin
Never in all my days did I think I would love a dog so much!
So sorry for those of you who have just lost their soul mates, I can't imagine how sad that must be💕
