To ask you not to forget this about your dog...

You are their entire world

After a busy week where I've had to leave DDog home alone a little more than usual (she usually goes most places with me) I am reminded how their whole little worlds really do centre around us, their owners. I get the impression she is feeling a little insecure this week - each evening without fail she has bumbled up the stairs and onto the main bed to join me, quietly snuggled up against my legs with her paws over her sweet, innocent face, snoozing. She's generally a very independent dog and usually at this time of the evening she'd be downstairs taking over the sofa, but this week she just wants to be close-by.

I'm not ashamed to say I adore every little hair on her precious body Grin and I'm sure I'm not the only one who treasures their DDog. AIBU to cherish every little moment with her and say never take for granted the fact that you are the entire world to your dog?

I may never be a perfect human but when she looks at me and chooses to spend her time curled up with me, that's about as close as I'll ever feel Grin

I know I am my dogs whole world but what am I supposed to do when I have to go out? I often take her with me as I can't bare her sad face when I say I'm going to get the kids. Every night I make dh turn the lounge light off and shut the door as I don't like leaving her on her own though she has the guinea pig for company now.

QOD · 26/10/2019 21:59

@SunshineCake I leave mine too.
She sleeps and waits. Waits and sleeps.
It is what it is

Brigante9 · 26/10/2019 22:03

Mine are ‘velcro’ dogs. They get a lot of attention but are freaked out by the current diy and changes in the house. Lots of reassurance needed.

@QOD I have a camera so I check on her when I am out. Nearly broke my heart the time she slept facing the door as if waiting for me to come back. Mostly she's on her rug or in her bed.

BitOfFun · 26/10/2019 22:05

It really blows my mind how we can love and be loved by a creature of an entirely different species. It's an amazing relationship.

ilovepixie · 26/10/2019 22:16

Here's my pixie she loves lying on us. She's my world.

Ddog 2 is being a real pain tonight. We have fireworks going of round about us and, having been trained to the gun, he thinks he should be retrieving something. He’s been in and out a dozen times and I’ve been accused of pandering to his every whim.

Ddog 1 is 13 and doesn’t see or hear very well now. He is oblivious to all the activity.

I love them to bits.

Ohyesiam · 26/10/2019 22:30

This is why I could never have a dog

realitycalling · 26/10/2019 22:30

Lovely thread Smile

We had to have our 14-year-old lab put to sleep 10 days ago. She was our first pet and the place isn't the same without her.

captainprincess · 26/10/2019 22:35

@Gertie75 that one always brings a tear to my eye.

ThatDamnedDog · 26/10/2019 22:36

My boys have beautiful souls, far nicer than mine Grin. I lost my angel in July and wasn’t ready for the puppy that appeared in August (husband has always wanted a Rottweiler) but I can feel the little nuisance worming his way into my heart

They love so unconditionally! I never take for granted that we are literally their entire worlds.

CondeNasty · 26/10/2019 22:39

I saved my girl and she saved me. I miss her every day 💔.

My boy is so loyal, he's a westie who is blind, scruffy and of indeterminate age. I got him from a lady who was moving on a whim. He loves nothing more than a wee bumble and sniff. I don't appreciate him enough q

This thread has made me cry. I’m currently away for a week and have left my cat at home with a cat sitter popping in once a day as I feel it’s better than a cattery. He came home ill from a cattery once, I’m sure he prefers being at home.
The cat sitter is a vet nurse and he likes her but I still feel so guilty when we are away. He likes to sleep under the bed during the day as the house is busy but comes out when lo is in bed to spend time with me. Curls up in the same place on my bed every night, just behind my knees and wakes me up purring and tapping my shoulder every morning. He had a bad start and I just hope I make him happy and he enjoys his life now.

InkyFANGERSInkyFace · 26/10/2019 22:58

The other day, my dog refused to be anywhere but my lap, and wrapped his front legs round my leg and held me.

I love him and hate him in equal measures, he's an absolute pain. But he's so unique, he has no many quirks and behaviours I find fascinating. I'm at home most of every day and he's with me. I rescued him 8 months ago and we don't know how long he will be with us because he's very old, but I know we still have some adventures awaiting.

I know I am his world, no one else can pacify him properly when I'm not there. He has some odd behaviours when I'm out and he's left with my partner and/ or my eldest. His next favourite is my mum and he gets almost as excited to see her as he does for me.

I think these are all reasons I'll always prefer dogs to cats. That and my cat allergy.

I do honestly think of stockhold syndrome ? ( And I love mine as much as anyone could ) .

lilbumblebee · 26/10/2019 23:06

I'm due in a couple of weeks and my wee pupster is obsessed with either curling up on my bump or spooning me at night. Whenever we've had to pop out for the shops, he goes absolutely tonto for about 5 mins and demands lots of cuddles. Very lucky to have him in our life, plus he's amazing with our 2 year old.

I lost my wonderful cat a few months ago. His brother is next to me now. He has changed so much and it’s all heartbreaking. I’m everything to him. They are indoor cats so have no other life and I’m so unhappy.

Thurmanmurman · 26/10/2019 23:15

“A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water logged stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?”
― John Grogan, Marley & Me
This makes me cry every time and I don’t even have a dog (yet but I’m working on DH)

VQ1970 · 26/10/2019 23:16

Not a dog but I've been out this evening and am now tucked up in bed with this one for company.

Mine is left alone whilst I work...though he sleeps Alot when I work from home so don't feel too guilty. However family time and most family holidays he comes as he is the perfect one and when he's not there we all miss him..

puppymouse · 26/10/2019 23:27

Thought exactly this earlier today. We left DDog for 3 hours or so for DD's birthday party. He had a good walk and came out with me this morning.

He was beside himself when we got back. Like I'd left him for a week. He was so happy I was home. Love my animals more than anything.
