We bought one the year before last on cyber Monday. I think we saved about £150. It still cost a lot but is the best home related purchase we've ever made!

ZaraW · 27/10/2019 10:24

Thevacmat which article put Dyson second? I subscribe and the ranking under "Which vacuum cleaner to buy in 2019" was Numeric, Miele, Sebo, Bosch with Dyson number five with a reliability rating of 68% and customer satisfaction at 68%

coconuttelegraph · 27/10/2019 10:30

Are you a vacuum bot @Thevacmat?

I'm not sure if you are being ironic with your spelling and lack of punctuation, are you teasing us?

ZaraW · 27/10/2019 10:33

Numatic not Numeric

Dilligaf81 · 27/10/2019 10:40

Buy a shark. £350 for the cordless one with 2 battery's so can easily do the whole house. Regularly beats the Dyson in tests and doesn't give the hypocrite Dyson even more money than he could possibly need whilst he sells himself as an old man in a shed done good.

RockinHippy · 27/10/2019 10:43

That was meant to be twat before you start 😂 autocorrect is a fun feature

That made me giggle, my autocorrect has gone nuts recently. It keeps autocorrecting Ta words to Tarquininius WTAF 😐

ThighThighOfthigh · 27/10/2019 10:55

Pneumatic?

DragonontheWagon · 27/10/2019 11:04

Ignore the people saying all Dyson are shit, they're not but to get a decent cordless you need to get the V10 or the new V11. They are phenomenal and I imagine those berating them have only tried older versions.

As for the politics, where I'd usually care. We're currently very time poor so we bought a V10 which is fast, highly efficient and easy to empty. We did what we needed to do to live.

The Dyson website does do 1year interest free credit which really helps make an expensive machine easier to purchase.

RockinHippy · 27/10/2019 11:31

Nope, I've used my dads V10 & my George knocks spots of it. So does my brothers Shark

CheshireChat · 27/10/2019 11:54

The cordless Dyson only has about 15 min battery if you use it on max charge and then it needs 3.5hr to charge fully again.

The corded one weighs about 7kg as opposed to about 4.5kg for a Shark and it's more expensive with fewer features.

Plus the Shark converts to a handheld.

Disclaimer- I've just bought a Shark and I've had to put up with a rather pushy Dyson sales assistant.

DragonontheWagon · 27/10/2019 12:13

Cheshire we have a dog that sheds year round and we've never used the max setting, ever. The medium setting is perfectly decent to clear absolutely everything up in our house.

Really Confused mine would only ever pick up on max setting

I agree with the battery life been crap too. Plus they are way too fragile. Ours fell over & chipped a bit of plastic off where the parts slot together. Dead as a door nail & gluing it back on doesn't help. They shouldn't break that easily 🤬

tillytrotter1 · 27/10/2019 12:26

The grammar dick behaviour will be perpetuated, which doesn't help anyone, writer or reader.

If errors are not pointed out they will be perpetuated although they're sometimes caused by typos.

The word hoover is now accepted in the small case for a cleaning machine, as is hoovering, my Dyson is always referred to as a hoover. It's the same with fridge, that comes from the make Fridgidaire and is the reason for the difference in spelling of fridge and refrigerate, ie no letter d.

Lyingonthesofainthedark · 27/10/2019 12:39

I did buy my Dyson cordless on Black Friday direct from Dyson in 2017 and I have been delighted with it. It cleans 6-7 rooms plus hall, stairs and landing, before it gives out.
I do use the max setting sometimes but not often.

midnightmisssuki · 27/10/2019 12:43

it’s really good - I would get it (I have one)

motherheroic · 27/10/2019 12:58

@DragonontheWagon 'We did what we needed to do to live.'

You bought a vacuum. Talk about being dramatic.

brittabot · 27/10/2019 12:59

No. Had a Dyson but it was rubbish.
We now have a Miele is much better.
Won’t support Dyson after he supported Brexit and moved his manufacturing abroad.

northernmonkeys100 · 27/10/2019 13:23

Don’t expect the batteries to last. Brittle plastics.
Never buying anything Dyson again.

IWorkAtTheCheescakeFactory · 27/10/2019 13:26

Henry cordless. 2 batteries. 30 minutes power on normal setting. About 20 on high setting. It says it takes 3 hours to charge battery but it never has taken that long for mine. No clogging up anything, no loss of suction as battery goes down, sturdy. I love him.

I have a Miele cat and dog and hate the thing. Really heavy and clunky. The plug pulls out of then socket when you move around instead of just unravelling the cord further. The cord also no longer rewinds reliably when you press the button. (It’s less than 2 years old) You have to spend ages pulling it back out and pressing until it’s fully rewound. When the hoover runs over the cord it gets stuck rather than just rolling on over the top. The plastic parts on the hoover head where it’s supposed to slide into the holding slot snapped on both heads so it no longer stands upright when stored. The turbo head brush needs constantly declogged with scissors. You can’t remove the brush without purchasing special tools and taking the whole head casing apart. The normal head is useless for dog hair on carpet despite it being the cat and dog model so only the turbo head will do which I now can’t use due to it being clogged up so it won’t turn. So I use Henry.

DragonontheWagon · 27/10/2019 14:43

IWork we both have chronic health conditions that can make us very tired so not really so dramatic when we're trying to get through life but thanks for your thoughts anyway.

IWorkAtTheCheescakeFactory · 27/10/2019 14:44

I didn’t make the comment. Someone else did. I just enjoyed it.

BexIsr44 · 27/10/2019 17:57

We have a Dyson cordless. Not worth the money at all. Battery doesn’t last, and takes ages to fully charge. We have two dogs and our Dyson can’t handle the dog hair at all. It’s also a pain to fully clean. Really disappointing.

DragonontheWagon · 27/10/2019 18:13

Apologies iwork I didn't read the replies properly and jumped on your comment wrongly.
