Out with child in a pram and you need the loo...

Blackbear19 · 26/10/2019 18:19

If your on your own what do you do?
The obvious answer is to use the 'family loo' if there is one but few places seem to have them. Do you?

  1. Use a standard cubical in the ladies. Keeping the door open so you can keep an eye on child?
  1. Ask a stranger to keep an eye?
  1. Leave pram unattended and hope for the best?
  1. Use a shewee?
  1. Quickly nip into the accessible loo?

List all that apply or you'd consider.

crispy it's the MN thing to say. No one in RL would ever do that. Nor would anyone ask a stranger to watch an empty pram.

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 26/10/2019 18:41

Is Accesible the same as Disabled?

horse4course · 26/10/2019 18:42

@crispysausagerolls why is it so bad to ask a stranger? Trust your spidey senses about people, 99.99% are good people who love to hold a baby!

I'm always plopping my baby onto strangers while I sort my pre schooler out. I just choose carefully who I pick!

crispysausagerolls · 26/10/2019 18:42

Sorry not leaving my child outside for anything

Quite! I would rather wet myself

Evilmorty · 26/10/2019 18:43

I used to go to the very end and leave the door open with the pram across

crispysausagerolls · 26/10/2019 18:44

why is it so bad to ask a stranger?

Because you don’t KNOW the person/what they are capable of/how they think? You don’t KNOW your child is safe with them for 1-3minutes. Anything could happen, spidey senses mean fuck all when it comes to the safety of your child.

Andsoitisjust99 · 26/10/2019 18:44

I’ve done all the options at one time or another. I also had twins and birth complications so couldn’t use a sling or hold them in the loo. Usually I would park them outside the cubical and hope for the best.

I loved the occasional toilet with baby seats in them.

curlii103 · 26/10/2019 18:44

Accessible without a doubt but i.dont get the drama over it on here.

Oysterbabe · 26/10/2019 18:45

Most of the baby change facilities have a loo and room for a pram so I'd use those.

Neverender · 26/10/2019 18:45

I used to use the disabled toilets as DD would go mad if I left her.

Mumdiva99 · 26/10/2019 18:46

Accessible loo (baby change or disabled or parent and child loo - my local shopping centre has these....just large normal loos so you can fit a stroller), or end loo door open. Or I would ask a stranger if necessary - worse would be leaving a baby outside with nothing. Most people in life are lovely....I would do it for someone else too. -- very quickly you learn where is good to pee!

Alsohuman · 26/10/2019 18:47

I’m the nice, white haired lady who gets asked to keep an eye out. Apparently I’ve got a kind face.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 26/10/2019 18:47

Just go to normal cubicle and chat to child through door. Possibly end cubicle with pushchair across the door and door open a crack. If I didn't have the pushchair with me either sit her on my lap or on changing mat on the floor. When older if they don't fit install have them stand with their feet under door. Also I always kept a bike lock attached to the buggy so could lock it to bike racks if necessary.

DD was very sensible so I know she wouldn't run off and only had a single buggy (Quinny Zapp) which fitted in most places. I've been a single parent since day one and always had to do it. DD is 10 now.

MrsNotNice · 26/10/2019 18:48

ive left a door open couple of timeS

can’t trust a stranger with my babies ( have 2). And don’t want them getting used to the idea of losing sight of me and lurking around a stranger.

I usually look for disabled toilets

I think ladies toilets need a makeover to consider family sized toilets. Usually last cubicles Are a bit bigger and sometimes I can fit a pram in there. So perhaps they should say priority is for pram users or something

Family sized toilets in shopping centres like Westfield are the best!

I think what I would do with one child if I was desperate is take them out of the pram and in with me unless it was a very quick thing and a quiet toilet.

LeftoverPizza · 26/10/2019 18:49

I’d use a disabled or end cubicle

imclaustrophobicdarren · 26/10/2019 18:50

I would use the baby change/disabled...anywhere I could take the pram in with me.

riotlady · 26/10/2019 18:52

I use baby change/disabled toilet, nearly everywhere I’ve been they are the same place

jamoncrumpets · 26/10/2019 18:53

I use an accessible loo. But I have IBD so don't feel any guilt about using it.

MoaningMinniee · 26/10/2019 18:55

Another twin mother here. I've done the last cubicle in the row with the door open. Ideal was baby change room with a loo attached. I am so pleased that disabled loos are now often being called accessible loos, so that people who need more space for whatever legitimate reason can use them without feeling guilty.

raspberryk · 26/10/2019 18:58

Either find a loo big enough to go in, ask a woman with young children to watch-I've done this. I wouldn't use the loo with the door open!
I have also helped when a dad was the only adult with a young girl at swimming in the loos-i had my dd with me.
Also not toilet related but I offered (and help was accepted) to either scan a lady's shopping or hold the baby as I was standing behind in the queue at the very small local tesco. She looked so stressed and she practically threw the crying baby at me. I didn't have my kids with me but clearly I didn't look like a kidnapper.
I don't think there's anything wrong with asking or offering help.

goodtoseeyou · 26/10/2019 18:58

I use the disabled/accessible toilet. I would not leave my baby outside.

Duggeeismysaviour · 26/10/2019 18:59

Depends on age of child! A couple of times I left ds1 with a mind old lady just outside the cubicle, when he bound stand I would bring him in with me, out of pram.

But it's a rarity, I usually find a big loo to use

raisinseverywhere · 26/10/2019 19:00

Wedge the pram into the cubicle and leave the door open/ajar.

Wouldn’t close the door and trust someone else to watch the baby. I was once on train and someone next to me went to the toilet and asked me to watch their baby!

Bobbybobbins · 26/10/2019 19:02

End cubicle and left the door open, definitely.

AJPTaylor · 26/10/2019 19:03

With the older 2 (now in their 20s) I would simply ask someone to keep an eye for the 2 mins I needed to see.
I also offered for other mums, took girls into the loo if they were out with their dad( or go in an hurry them up)
