To think that if you think a man can have sex with a plastic cone, your idea of sex needs adjusting?

Masturbation attempt story being described as sex attempt story

This irritates me every time I see similar headlines. It also disturbs me because what it tells me, is that the people who write these headlines don't understand what sex is. They think masturbation is sex. And I wonder if the reason so many men are really shit in bed, is because they're taught that sex is basically a posh wank, with a living, breathing wank sock, rather than a mutual engagement with a minimum of 2 human beings involved.

Or am I overthinking it? Is it just lazy journalism?

I was more interested in HOW he could have sex or masturbate with a cone. Can only deduce he had anal sex?? Oh, or is it used upside down?Confused

Do you think sex is penis in vagina sex what about same sex couples?

FineWordsForAPorcupine · 26/10/2019 16:25

You're right - I had never thought about it like that.

Yeah, it's basically another example of "sex is when a man sticks his dick into something" thinking.

Did you read the OP? At no point did they say this.

No I don't.

Hence my post.

As for same sex couples, no, I don't think women are socialised to believe that sex is using another woman's body as a masturbatory aid and gay men I'm not that interested in as I am never going to sleep with one, so I don't care whether they're crap in bed or not.

The post is about why it is mainstream and normal, to talk about men's attempts to stick their dicks anywhere, as sex.

Completely agree. Thank you for pointing this misuse of language out.

jimmyhill · 26/10/2019 18:05

It's just a colloquialism to avoid the headline being too on-the-nose.

What do you want, "man attempts to insert penis into road cone"?

Sometimes people refer to masturbation as "self love" Imagine mistaking masturbation for love! OMG!!!

But again it's just a colloquialism

EskewedBeef · 26/10/2019 18:09

It's shorthand for 'sex act that's too difficult to sum up in a snappy, fit to be seen by children in the corner shop headline'.

ViciousJackdaw · 26/10/2019 18:25

It prevents a case of 'Mummy, what's masturbation?', that's all. You can always say sex is a 'special cuddle' or something, I can't really think of an age-appropriate explanation for onanism.

Man attempts to commit sex act with cone?

PMSL at "Man attempts to insert penis into road cone".

I like that one.
