Holiday situation - AIBU?

Mirrors123 · 26/10/2019 14:42

6 adults go on holiday. 2 couples have nice double bedrooms. 1 couple has a twin room with two single beds and has to pay the same. Is this unfair or AIBU?

I’d prefer a single !
Me and Dh get on well but I LOVE my sleep and want to sleep alone !

It's unfair but happened to me once. We got the shit room as we arrived last. The first couple to arrive got a huge master bedroom with amazing views and an ensuite!

Toomuchtrouble4me · 27/10/2019 19:27

I’d rather 2singles -snuggle for a shag and then clean sheets away from the snoring - win win.
YABU, it REALLY doesn’t matter.

numberoneson · 27/10/2019 19:33

Draw straws! Seriously, if it's such a big issue for you just don't book it - you may have to pay more for a place with 3 doubles though.

ton181 · 27/10/2019 19:34

Sounds like a case for Rock Paper Scissors to resolve (grin)

Cryalot2 · 27/10/2019 19:39

I am not long back and we had 2 very comfortable single beds . They were side by side but we moved a bedside table between them .

Tinkobell · 27/10/2019 19:44

Insist on preparing lots of wind-inducing dishes each night; chick peas etc - the bed sharers will soon be sorry! 😀

Mermaid67 · 27/10/2019 19:46

We would rather be in single beds than squashed in a double, better nights sleep means better holiday!

blahblahblahblahhh · 27/10/2019 19:47

Push the two single beds together

Jack80 · 27/10/2019 19:57

I would ask are the room sizes the same

Boxerbinky · 27/10/2019 23:06

Hotelier here. The fact that there are twin beds in one room is for flexibility, they will also have many requests for all twins as those who want double beds. The cost is usually worked out based on occupancy, the cost to dress two single beds is about the same as a double - if not a little more. So yes you need to decide between you if the total price should be split differently - the price is the price!

Boxerbinky · 27/10/2019 23:08

Also - ask if the twins can be zipped and linked making a large double.. most of our twins can also make a put together king size!

sunshinemode · 27/10/2019 23:25

Next thread will be asking if you should pay less for the shopping as you don’t eat bacon for breakfast. If each bill is going to cause so much deliberation surely everyone would be better of if you had your own accommodation

Badouchka1 · 28/10/2019 00:30

Are the singles not zip link? A lot of places advertise as twin room but they join to form a double?
Just push them together?
We once stayed in a farmhouse in France due to a family wedding, we got the dusty loft/family room that literally had huge spiders coming out of the cobbled walls and were expected to pay the same when all others had absolute luxury, now that I did object to!!

steff13 · 28/10/2019 00:40

I don't see the problem - if one couple is proposing this, then they must be ok with having the room with the two singles, right? So they take that room and the other two couples take the other two rooms.

Indella · 28/10/2019 00:42

You all pay the same or you find alternative accommodation.

LilyAraminta · 28/10/2019 02:41

Perhaps holiday homes in the UK are very different than the US, but to me, what the OP describes sounds like a home with:

  1. A master suite (nice big bed, en-suite, probably larger closet and largest bedroom in the house).
  2. A traditional guest room (double bed, en-suite, probably second largest bedroom in the house).
  3. "Kid room" (twins beds or bunks, no en-suite, smaller room, possibly less nice linens).

We've shared everything from cabins to massive villas with friends, and tried to be fair sharing the cost depending upon who got the gorgeous master suite overlooking the ocean vs who ended up in the kiddy quarters with small beds and a bath down the hall.

OpheliaBee · 28/10/2019 03:14

I like my own space and hate overheating so would be fine with singles. Nothing cramped about a single to yourself compared to a double where you are actively avoiding the other person touching you!

SD1978 · 28/10/2019 04:09

Ages of people going? Length of friendship? Is everyone aware of the bedrooms? Is the accomodation otherwise perfect for the needs? Will anyone be spending that much time in the bedrooms? Can you not do a random draw for who gets which room? Swap half way below ding on length of stay between the best and the worse room? Or maybe have all the women folk run in and scream 'baggsies' for the best room? It's shite being stuck in the crap room- but if it's done as a random pick- I'd be more excited about spending time with friends and doing things than being in a single room.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 28/10/2019 04:35

Not sure if it's an American thing but I find the trend for bigger and bigger beds a bit weird. Like people buying double beds for young children, wtf? If kids learn to sleep alone in 4ft 6 of space they will never comfortably be able to share with a partner as an adult!

A 3ft single bed is not a "kids bed" Hmm. It is bed suitable for 1 adult.

A 2ft 6 bed I would call a kids bed.

A double is a bed for 2 adults.

I appreciate people are taller/fatter than a generation ago, so can see why you might want a king size for 2 taller adults and perhaps a small (4ft) double for a large teen.

But a friend of mine is getting a double bed for her 4 year old. It's just daft.

nedflandereses · 28/10/2019 04:39

I wouldn't split the cost if they were in larger rooms with ensuites. I'd book my own room.

SeaSandandSun · 28/10/2019 07:56

I would want the super king or the singles. I wouldn’t cope in a double!

Wheresthetimegone · 28/10/2019 10:30

Just get on with it for goodness sake. Draw straws, End of.

endlessstrife · 28/10/2019 11:26

I actually prefer a single bed when we’re away. We’re used to a super king at home, and most holiday places generally only offer king size. One only had a 4ft 6”! Way to small for me and hubby, I’m 5’ 9”, hubby a few inches taller. I like my leg room. Therefore we’d be happy to pay the same I suppose. I think it depends on everything about the rooms, not just the bed situation.
