Holiday situation - AIBU?

6 adults go on holiday. 2 couples have nice double bedrooms. 1 couple has a twin room with two single beds and has to pay the same. Is this unfair or AIBU?

Of course YABU.

Surely you all checked what the accommodation was before you booked it?

LIZS · 26/10/2019 14:44

Yabu. Price per room. Who chose accommodation?

AmayaBuzzbee · 26/10/2019 14:45

Depends on the size of the rooms. If all are equal, then all pay the same. If twin room is smaller too, then it would be fair the occupants of that would pay a bit less I think.

TheMustressMhor · 26/10/2019 14:45

I think you've voted YANBU by mistake LIZS.

Mirrors123 · 26/10/2019 14:46

Hasn't been booked yet. This is what one couple are proposing. Just don't think it's fair to all pay the same when one couple will be in single beds all week.

Scarydinosaurs · 26/10/2019 14:46

I’d expect to pay less if I was sleeping in a single

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 26/10/2019 14:47

I thought this was going to be x has an en-suite and 18 children, y has an end-suite and no children, z has 4 children the bathroom is downstairs and she only eats pomegranates. I was ready for complicated.

As it is you have 3 pairs of adults and 3 bedrooms which are fundamentally the same and you'll all use the communal areas the same amount. Of course you all pay the same.

TheMustressMhor · 26/10/2019 14:47

If it's going to cause an argument then you need to find accommodation with three double bedrooms, OP.

Mirrors123 · 26/10/2019 14:47

Me too scary dinosaurs. It's everyone's holiday and no adult wants to be cramped in a single bed all week.

OP posts:
highheelsandwitcheshats · 26/10/2019 14:47

I take it you're in the twin?

If you were in the double, would you be happy paying extra for those in the twin to get a discount? If you are, maybe offer to swap and pay the difference. If you're not, then you shouldn't want anyone else to supplement you.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 26/10/2019 14:48

I think it’s fair. If everyone wants a double, either have a lottery for who gets the twin room or charge a bit more for the doubles.

EggysMom · 26/10/2019 14:48

Split price evenly.
Draw straws (or use online equivalent) to fairly decide which couple gets the twin room.

Mirrors123 · 26/10/2019 14:48

They're not all the same though are they if two bedrooms have nice comfortable double beds and one bedroom has two single beds.

OP posts:
Namechangeforthiscancershit · 26/10/2019 14:48

How much time will you actually spend in bed? If it will really cause arguments, now is the time to find somewhere with 3 doubles.

It might also be worth checking they can't zip link the twin beds together for you?

LaurieFairyCake · 26/10/2019 14:49

I don't get this at all Confused

I would WANT the 2 single beds - much more space than a standard double you share with another

At home we have super king zip and linked beds - that's 2 singles joined together

I would EXPECT to pay the same price for the room

TheMustressMhor · 26/10/2019 14:49

No adult wants to be cramped in a single bed all week.

Plenty of people prefer sleeping in single beds.

Vulpine · 26/10/2019 14:49

Cant you push the beds together. If not then perhaps this should be reflected in the price though i am sure there are plenty of couples who would be happy to have single beds

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 26/10/2019 14:49

But half a double is much smaller than a single isn't it? I wouldn't find it cramped?

TeenPlusTwenties · 26/10/2019 14:50

Why doesn't the couple proposing equal prices take the twin room then?

WillYouDoTheFandango · 26/10/2019 14:50

That’s totally fair. Each room sleeps two so you pay the same price. Pick lots when you arrive to see who gets first pick of rooms if you want to make it super fair. Twin beds can be pushed together.

SunshineAngel · 26/10/2019 14:50

I've been away with groups of friends before (to Center Parcs if anyone cares) and we've always paid the same price per person, whichever room people got.

ALL of the rooms were nice, and tbh, when you're away, you go to your room to sleep and that's pretty much it. The point of the holiday is not your room, it's what you do with the rest of the time.

Suppose the people in the twin did pay less. How much less? What if both other couples were unhappy paying more and then they wanted the twin so they could pay less and then that caused issues?

I'd say pay the same amount and then draw straws for the rooms.

Toooldtobearsed2 · 26/10/2019 14:51

Tut.
I would pay more to be in twin beds. A double bed is just too small!

Nah, price should be the same, sorry (unless they have en-suites and you don't)

Whitney168 · 26/10/2019 14:51

If the accommodation suits in all other ways and assuming the choice of who gets the twins is entirely random (i.e. drawing straws with all present), then seems entirely fair to me. Not many places have three double rooms without having to pay for a bigger place to have others spare too.

billandbenflowerpotmen1 · 26/10/2019 14:52

I'd ask if anyone wants to sleep in the singles. If no one volunteers then a reduction of 25% of the cost of the doubles would be fair I think

NearlyGranny · 26/10/2019 14:53

ONLY if the rooms are allocated randomly on arrival by coloured sweeties. One woman pops a smartie at each threshold, three men take turns picking a smartie blind from inside a bag. Woman 1 photographs sweetie setup to ensure no cheating!

Otherwise, agree a discount in advance and see who wants it. 36:36:28 shares feels about right.
