Just that really

For Remainers it’s been a shit sow from day 1

But we’re fast approaching the failure of deadline number 3 to Leave.

WTF are we hoping to get out of this?

The problem is that there is no politician who believes leaving will benefit the country.

It will benefit the financial dealings of a few very rich ministers, and some (Labour) ministers are pandering tp idiotic Brexit supporters in the hope of being re-elected. Even though Brexit will decimate the costituencies voting for it. Hmm

But leaving will be an absolute disaster for the country.

HollowTalk · 25/10/2019 19:05

The whole thing has led to the country being divided and in chaos. So interesting that it was the Conservatives who did this, especially if their actions result in the break up of the union.

thisneverendingsummer · 25/10/2019 19:12

No, it's been handled spectacularly bad(ly) by everyone. Both sides, all parties.

I was on the fence beck in 2016, but I voted to Leave. Now, to be honest, with the amount of disharmony, discord, and hate, and upset its caused, I would quite happily cancel Brexit and just stay in the EU.

Jenpop234 · 25/10/2019 19:45

I voted leave and thought that parliament would respect the vote of the people. Unfortunately MPs from all parties have failed to work together to deliver what should have been a cross-party agreement. Now, we're left with a half arsed deal which keeps getting blocked by every labour MP because they don't want Brexit. The conservatives don't really want Brexit either as they can't be arsed with the negotiations, but at least they're trying to pass the bill, as this is what the people voted for.
Yes, I would still have voted leave because I believe once we are out of the European trade union we will be able to forge deals with many new countries. However, I think the way MPs have dragged it out and argued and bickered about it like children trying to one-up each other is shameful.

jenpop which countries do you think we can trade with that we can’t now?

What would be buy / sell?

ginghambox · 25/10/2019 19:53

No one is but you already know that so why start another thread?

Bearbehind · 25/10/2019 19:56

Why not gingham?

Leavers have insisted Boris was getting them out next week but he’s failed too.

When is this going to end?

OP posts:
ginghambox · 25/10/2019 19:59

Why not gingham?
Because you start an anti brexit every few days.

Bearbehind · 25/10/2019 20:02

It’s not so much ‘anti’ Brexit as what is the fucking point and where does it all end.

What is anyone getting out of this now?

OP posts:
Sunnyuplands · 25/10/2019 20:07

Interesting question.. Has brexit gone yet?

I thought brexit was still being held hostage in a parliament stuffed with tyrannical Remainers??

Ylvamoon · 25/10/2019 20:07

This is a clear indication of how miserably democracy is failing at every level.
Personally, I just want the shit show that is Brexit over and done with... in / out just make a bloody decision and stick with it.

Bluewavescrashing · 25/10/2019 20:09

Personally I think anyone who voted to leave was incredibly naive.

I don't listen to the news now. It's scary and boring.

ginghambox · 25/10/2019 20:11

You must be getting something out of it because you know very well any mention of Brexit on AIBU sets off a klaxon at remainer HQ and the usual suspects come piling in.

Bearbehind · 25/10/2019 20:13

So just hide it then gingham 🤔

If you don’t give a toss about the biggest thing to affect several generations then that’s your call.

OP posts:
Switcher33 · 25/10/2019 20:17

Actually I think some people are quite enjoying it. They seem to like rehearsing the same old arguments online about how awful it is, how everything is ruined forever and how the 'other side' (either leave or remain, all X million of them) are just so STUPID and DELUDED.

ginghambox · 25/10/2019 20:18

I do give a toss. Why didn' you post this in the BREXIT section?

DilysMoon · 25/10/2019 20:19

Even if we do actually leave with Boris's deal that's not Brexit "done", it's just the beginning. How many years in transition whilst negotiating the future relationship? Brexit isn't going anywhere for a very long time (unless revoked!), I think there's a significant number of people that don't realise this.

IdiotInDisguise · 25/10/2019 20:19

I don’t know about your MPs, but mine is a true representation of the wishes of her constituents. We voted to stay, she is acting according to the wishes of the people who made her a MP. She reflects our voices.

I suspect that’s the case of most MPs, there are very few ones who are voting against the wishes of the people they represent, regardless of what rubbish Boris and the extreme right are trying to make people believe.

Bearbehind · 25/10/2019 20:20

I do give a toss. Why didn' you post this in the BREXIT section?

Why do people like you think this goes away if you can’t see it?

OP posts:
IvinghoeBeacon · 25/10/2019 20:21

I have a suspicion that boris Johnson and Dominic Cummings are probably ok with it actually, despite appearances. Because it’s win-win for them, the narrative with their supporters always goes their way. They either “deliver brexit” or they are “thwarted by bitter remainers” whichever way things go. The object is to remain in power at all costs and their aim isn’t to brexit so much as to win a GE, and they have the narrative on their side with enough people who will vote the way they want them to. So I reckon they’re fairly content with how things stand actually. The fact that the situation is destroying the country makes no difference to them

Bluewavescrashing · 25/10/2019 20:23

It's fucked up when the NHS and state education are screaming out for money and all this cash is being wasted on Brexit.

KennDodd · 25/10/2019 20:24

I think where we are now is probably the easy bit of Brexit. I can't see things getting easier or better for a long, long time. Sad thing is most people seem to think if Boris gets his deal through, that'll be it, it's done and we can stop talking about it, in fact it'll just be the start.

historysock · 25/10/2019 20:24

No one I know, leave or remain is happy with how it's going. Because whichever way you look at it it's a shit show.
As a remainer however I pretty much saw (a version) of this coming. Which, aside from the other reasons I didn't want to leave the EU, was why I wanted to remain: there was no way this would be handled well.

Im livid about the whole thing.

Bearbehind · 25/10/2019 20:25

It's fucked up when the NHS and state education are screaming out for money and all this cash is being wasted on Brexit.

Exactly - this is just wasting time and money for no apparent reason.

It’s well seen that jenpop didn’t come back to tell us about the great trade deals we can look forward to

OP posts:
PenCreed · 25/10/2019 20:25

I think that if anyone had worked for consensus in 2016, we'd be a lot better off now. Had May gone for a cabinet made up of both Leavers and Remainers, had anyone tried to reassure Remainers properly instead of repeating the same referendum soundbites and calling them "removers", had Remainers been a bit more willing to accept this had happened and how can we soften the blow...

But we've all been sniping at each other for 3 years now, the division won't heal and we're fucked either way.
