To hate Heelys

Or whatever those kids shoes are with wheels on.

It's half term and there are bloody hundreds of kids careering around our local supermarket in them.

I saw one ?8 year old girl take out an elderly frail lady on them this morning.
It's really not on.

I agree, totally unsafe! It's not the shoes as such but that they are used in situations where you need actual shoes that causes the misery. If you had skates, bike or scooter you would change shoes before entering shops or leave your wheels outside.

YANBU and I don’t know why they’re still popular. Usually fads come and go but this one’s been around years.

ShinyGiratina · 25/10/2019 11:52

YANBU

There isn't really a safe situation to use them as outdoor spaces such as playgrounds and pavements are usually too rough for them and indoor spaces are inevitably socially unsuitable.

kitk · 25/10/2019 12:05

Def not unreasonable. I nearly hit a kid with my trolley last weekend who suddenly skidded in front of me. I'm not bothered for kids who use them in parks etc but they're not really for supermarkets

bigbluebus · 25/10/2019 12:16

They could just as easily take out an elderly person by riding on the trolley having got up speed on it first - I've seen children doing that in the aisles many times. It's not the heelys that are the problem - it's the lack of parenting!

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 25/10/2019 12:18

For some reason these make me feel really nervous and on edge!

They've been a thing for ages. The craze must be on their way out.

SoupDragon · 25/10/2019 12:23

TBH, what you actually hate are inconsiderate children with inadequate parents. I've seen kids on scooters and the trollies being an equal nuisance.

My local supermarkets do actually have signs up telling people not to use Heelys inside though.

Wolfiefan · 25/10/2019 12:25

I hate them. Kids can’t walk properly in them either.

londonrach · 25/10/2019 12:42

Yanbu. The damage they do to childrens spines honestly they should be banned to say nothing of them unsafe use by the children.

weymouthswanderingmermaid · 25/10/2019 13:23

My DC are furious that I've never allowed them to have heelys. I think they are bad for posture, and also an accident waiting fo happen!
They have roller boots that they can wear in the park. That's all they need.

FionaOgre · 25/10/2019 15:03

They're banned in my house. Too dangerous and they're also banned in some supermarkets. And so they bloody should be!

Winterdaysarehere · 25/10/2019 15:08

My ddogs also hates them. One of my dc complained ddog had made an attempt to bite her once during a walk.
Turned out she had mowed her paw down!! Told her it was her own fault!!
Poor ddog was fine - luckily it wasn't our smaller ddogs or may have needed a vet.
You can't wear a onesie to shop but it's OK to mow the customers down...

Areyoufree · 25/10/2019 15:13

I love Heelys.

FurrySlipperBoots · 25/10/2019 15:16

'Kids! Kids! Rolllll your way to childhood obesity!'

LeftoverPizza · 25/10/2019 15:18

I hate them, I had a pair when I was younger and I nearly broke my ankle

Wizzbangpop · 25/10/2019 15:19

I hate them especially in supermarkets it's an expensive accident waiting to happen. Can imagine something happening in the wine aisle with all the glass bottles.
My ddog also hates them. She can't figure out how The the child is moving which freaks her out and starts barking at said child she which isn't good. Especially if she is taken unawares
