Just found something hanging out my leg. Still a black thing in leg. Is this a tick? Do I need antibiotics?

The dog came back covered in ticks from the lakes. Bloody horrible things.

It’s a tick. I got a tick remover for the dog - once had to use on DP and it was easy to use him too! Grin

So I found the tick bite on friday morning, I guess it could have been there for a little more than 24 hours, I have no idea. I guess I picked it up on the Thursday.

Last night I started to feel unwell. I feel hot, or hot/cold, sick and have a big headache. Am I just getting ill? Would you see someone regarding Lyme disease?

I'd go to see the GP/walk in clinic - I'm surprised the GP didn't give you anti-biotics when you saw them last time.

Chupchup · 27/10/2019 10:11

Gp did not seem concerned at all.

Yes absolutely

My friend has been very very sick for the past few months following an infection with lymes

Not something id take a chance with at all

Thanks for the advice. Just waiting for an appointment to come through. I'm definitely ill, just don't know if it's related or not.

Is there any redness at the site of the bite? Bullseye rash? It doesn't always appear so I'd say you're best checking with a Doc

Doesn’t look like any tics we’ve removed, normally you can see legs and it def looks like an insect up close. That just looks like something black. Would you get symptoms so quick?

My dc have had loads over the years.

HettyStThomas · 27/10/2019 14:28

I was bitten in the summer and was given antibiotics as a precaution to prevent Lyme diseases.

HettyStThomas · 27/10/2019 14:29

Oh, just to add I was fine afterwards but 3 weeks later my ankle swelled up and a big purple rash spread up my leg, that's why I was given antibiotics

HoldMyLobster · 27/10/2019 14:29

I live in New England so I see a lot of ticks. They can be so tiny they're almost impossible to see. Lyme Disease symptoms can start from 3 days after being bitten. The sooner you get treatment the better. Definitely see a doc ASAP and be forceful about starting treatment. UK GPs aren't always well informed about Lyme.

Chupchup · 27/10/2019 14:59

Thanks all. I have an appointment later. Should I push for antibiotics?
