AIBU to wonder how Facebook chooses its suggested friends? I have people that I've never looked for but have reason to believe that they may have searched me and its always the same person at the top

My Facebook seems to make suggestions based on who my friends are friends with, so I often see the same names over and over again because they are friends with several of my family members even though I personally have no idea who they are!

I think Facebook de-bunked this myth that if someone searches you/you search them, you’ll appear on each other’s suggested friends, ages ago.

Facebook uses all kinds of data, lots of it from your location services, so if you’ve ever been at the same place that person has been at - not even that you’ve ‘checked in’ at the same places, if you like some of the same pages, if you have (not even necessarily mutual) friends who live in the same areas, if you have similarly logged hobbies and interests, etc.

The whole “they’ve been stalking my profile” and that’s why they’re showing up is paranoia.
