I made an enquiry online today to Stepchange. Except it turns out it wasn't stepchange.
I gave them all my details, and sent copies of bank statements, tax credits award, everything.

What the fuck do I do?

Got a link?

CAG12 · 23/10/2019 17:11

Are you saying you think its a dodgy scam site?

If so contact your bank and tell then

easyandy101 · 23/10/2019 17:11

Cancel everything

Is it definitely a fraudulent website? If so, notify your bank for starters. I would also consider joining Equifax (£7.50 a month) and if your credit status changes they email you... you can then see if anyone is applying for anything in your name and stop it at source... you are not tied in and can cancel at any time.
This saved me when a fraudster applied for a credit card in my name. I would never have known otherwise...

ZoyaDestroyer · 23/10/2019 17:13

Oh dear God.

It was a northern lad I spoke to

Zoya they are scammers. you need to contact your bank now.
www.fca.org.uk/news/warnings/pay-plan-clone-authorised-firm this link shows the same phone number on yet another cloned site

ZoyaDestroyer · 23/10/2019 17:15

I've queried the company name and he said it is National Debt Service and the website is www.debtadviceexpert.co.uk/

We even did a 'three way call' to one of my creditors to confirm.a debt.

The whole time I thought I was talking to Step change

They can't do anything with your sort code and account number which is the only thing that will appear on your bank statement. They can set up a direct debit using those details and all your personal details but if they do, you can just cancel it online. You'll most likely get your e-mail address and phone number spammed but they won't be able to take any money without your card details

FavouriteSoul · 23/10/2019 17:16

Contact your bank. Sounds like a scam.

Moreisnnogedag · 23/10/2019 17:16

Oh no. Ring bank, they have anti fraud desks and might be able to help. That’s so shit especially when you were trying to sort yourself out. Don’t let it stop you though!

ZoyaDestroyer · 23/10/2019 17:16

My credit rating is shocking I have nothing in the bank so I dont know what they would gain

OP posts:
ZoyaDestroyer · 23/10/2019 17:17

They have a copy of my driving licence and my national insurance number

AskMeHow · 23/10/2019 17:18

Can you report to 101? You can report to Action Fraud also. Ring your bank (s) and let them know. Don't panic.

PurpleDaisies · 23/10/2019 17:18

You need to ring the bank now. There I’ll be a number on the back of your card.

Gazelda · 23/10/2019 17:18

Seriously, get off MN and call your bank immediately.

I'm so sorry this has happened. I hope you can nip it in the bud before any damage done.

Good luck

Cailleachian · 23/10/2019 17:30

Even if you dont have anything they could steal, there is a risk they could take out debt in your name.

Contact your bank for advice.

ZoyaDestroyer · 23/10/2019 17:35

I have frozen my card. My bank is online and there is an hour wait for live chat

I can't get any credit as my credit rating is so poor

OP posts:
Lemonlimesoda · 23/10/2019 17:35

Sign up to clear score (free) so you can see your credit profile and ensure that all details are correct and accounts you own; and also get CIFAS protection (one time fee) which will notify you of activity eg accounts or credit checks made in your name.

With the information and documents they have got, you are likely to fall victim to identity theft and they can try and open accounts in your name/buy things on store cards etc even if your credit rating is low.

ZoyaDestroyer · 23/10/2019 17:35

I really thought that I was sorted. He said I could pay £90 per month and all my debts would be gone in 5 years

OP posts:
ZoyaDestroyer · 23/10/2019 17:40

I have credit karma and already get notified

OP posts:
ZoyaDestroyer · 23/10/2019 17:40

I've asked this company to remove all my details

OP posts:
Lemonlimesoda · 23/10/2019 17:41

Don’t let this put you off, still contact the legit step change website and seek help, but approach with caution now and maybe log it on 101 so there is a crime reference and should any credit be opened in your name you can give the crime reference to have it closed down
