Hope this is okay to post here, I'm desperate and hoping for traffic

I was woken up at 5 this morning with the most horrific intense headache/migraine I've ever had. I could feel it even as I was asleep but have struggled to get back to sleep for long since.

The pain feels like a mix of shooting pains, throbbing and squeezing behind one eye at a time but changing every so often and on my temples. I would say the pain is 8 or 9 out of 10. My hands are constantly shaking and feel weak and dizzy. I've never felt anything like it. I also feel sick but everytime I go to be sick every cough and retch makes the pain 10 times worse behind my temples and I end up crying.

Does anybody have any ideas on what could help? Codeine hasn't touched it, sleeping isn't helping, nor is darkness or cold or warm. I'm in so much pain and I don't know what to do. I'm 20 fwiw

Thank you

Hi @GuineaPigPosie As a fellow migraine sufferer, you have my sympathies. What works for me is a cool pad on my pillow (I lie with the throbbing pain side on the cool pad), an ice lolly or ice cold drink (holding the cold drink in my mouth as long as possible helps!), quiet, no light, sleep and sumatriptans. I have to do all of the above together for relief, just doing one or two doesn't help much. I hope you're better soon, it really is a very painful, miserable condition to have.

Phone the GP - this is exactly what emergency appointments are for.

You probably need a triptan, but you'd do better to get that from a GP. You can buy sumatriptan tablets in a pharmacy, but the GP would be more appropriate IMO as they can give you something for the nausea too. Sumatriptan comes as a nasal spray for when you can't keep a pill down.

I'n a chronic migraineur and what works for me doesn't work for my mate. I need ice and cold, he needs heat and nothing touching his head.
