Operation Yellowhammer. What have you noticed in your local area?

Half of a local, heavily used, road is being turned into a lorry park. If it has to be used as such, there will be a traffic jam from the South coast to London. I'm hoping sense will prevaIl and there won't be a 'No Deal let's go right now' in November but what's happening where you are?

Live in the North. Few weeks ago there was notices on the overhead matrix about papers but nothing else.

Other than that it is like turkeys voting for Christmas. I'm not sure people realise the full implications.

AJPTaylor · 23/10/2019 08:57

I live in east sussex
Been bombarded with jobs as import/export clerks. Which would be fine but how the dickens would you get there?

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/10/2019 08:57

Disfordarkchocolate
I’m sorry you in the north feel disrespected and disenfranchised. I do hope Protests and Scotland will actually help with that. Brexit will only make it worse for you. I get the anti EU vote. However it was the wrong protest vote. I have a french passport and enough money to escape / get food. I’m ok. Millions aren’t.

CanThingsChange35 · 23/10/2019 08:57

Nothing at all up North Sad

Disfordarkchocolate · 23/10/2019 09:01

I would happily vote to join Scotland, I wonder if that's possible? Would London miss us?

BettysLeftTentacle · 23/10/2019 09:04

Stupid prepare for Brexit adverts on the telly and on Spotify/radio.
Signs on the motorway re lorries and paperwork.
I work for the NHS, things are getting more stressful with dwindling numbers of staff (if that’s even possible!).
The price of food is definitely creeping up slowly. At first I thought it was my imagination but it’s not, several friends and colleagues have noticed the same.
My unfollow and block list on Facebook is getting longer by the day Grin

I was going to say nothing, ( North also and semi rural) but thinking on...
A poster at the ( semi rural) bus stop telling me to: make sure that my passport is up to date" if travelling" Confused.

LittleLongDog · 23/10/2019 09:13

@MilkTrayLimeBarrel what exactly about the term so you find offensive?

longwayoff · 23/10/2019 09:13

I wish I could vote SNP myself, they're the only politicians making any sense to me at all. I sincerely hope that the amount of support for Brexit in the North will wake up politicians that there is life north of Watford and heavy investment is required up there. I believe that the centre of government should move to the centre of the country, wealth would follow pretty promptly. Vain hope though, far too entrenched down here.

I've noticed government sponsored recruitment adverts on social media and TV, for health and social care jobs, etc

andyoldlabour · 23/10/2019 09:21

LittleLongDog

This is why it is offensive, so please stop trying to be so innocent.

SansaSnark · 23/10/2019 09:26

I've seen a few "get prepared for brexit" ads on the TV. Also signs on the A38 near Plymouth about paperwork.

The problem with both adverts is that they just tell people things are going to change and don't really offer advice about what to do!

Nousernameforme · 23/10/2019 09:29

Nothing down in the proper south either, but that might just be my little bubble. I don't drive or watch terrestrial tv.

PookieDo · 23/10/2019 09:29

Mostly the shortage of fluoxetine (I think 10mg, but 20 is ok?) and HRT.

I am SE.
M11 probably has signs because it’s near the M25 and not that far from dartford

mindutopia · 23/10/2019 09:33

I’m most interested in the predicted increase in incidents of dogging we can expect! Blush

I think Brexit is a horrible, stupid, selfish idea, but this is the first potential spark of fun and frivolity I’ve heard tell of. The rest of us are just out here hoarding olive oil and tins of chickpeas. Hmm

Jillyhilly · 23/10/2019 09:34

I would imagine milktray finds the term “gammon” offensive because it is racist.

Erismorn · 23/10/2019 09:34

Operation Brock apparently starts again on the 28th. Of course, the stupid barriers never went away.

Kent council have been very vocal about the potential disruption so I imagine we will start to see some more bits over the next few weeks. We live very close to the south east ports so there is a very real possibility that roads/schools/food supply etc could all be significantly effected.

We've made sure we have a healthily stocked larder and freezer. Admittedly this is more to do with the fact that I am 40+1 with DD2, but the possible timing of both things at once I feel more comfortable knowing we can cope without having to fight traffic and then supply issues.

Redcherries · 23/10/2019 09:35

Wasn’t HRT shortages caused by issues with the adhesive on the patches of some, causing lots of women to switch causing shortages on those due to the unexpected need? That’s what I have read, more than happy to be corrected if wrong, it’s interesting.

When you read through the linked article the last paragraph breaks down the Gammon calling to basically calling someone who has different political views a pig. Every days is a school day like pp 😊 I’m not sure I can quite understand the racism side of the article, though he does say it’s usually linked to white, middle aged ugly men who voted leave. I don’t think I would ever call someone a pig for having different political views no matter which way round.

South east here, we have the motorway signs and the small airport (disused) down in Manston is to be used as a lorry car park.

Idontwanttotalk · 23/10/2019 09:38

HMRC are ready. They are referring to November 1st as 'Day One' and systems are all set for whether we have a deal or whether we have no deal.

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/10/2019 09:38

I’d never heard of that expression and had to google. I don’t think it’s a racial slur, especially considering white, middle classed / umc /uc conservative males are amongst the most privileged in this country.

FredaFrogspawn · 23/10/2019 09:40

There was a little stand at the service station off the A1 (M) with a bloke talking to commercial vehicle drivers. And some overhead notices about checking paperwork if your driving over to the rest of Europe with stuff.

Abraid2 · 23/10/2019 09:43

It doesn’t seem likely that anything will have changed by 1 November.

FranneKipankinstein · 23/10/2019 09:48

People are experimenting with bogey recipes as we shall all have enough to eat . My favourite so far is Spaghetti Bogeynose , closely followed by mingystringy soup.
I heard Ian Duncan Smith has a cook book coming out but he prefers his RAW. He likes the rubbery quality .

MarianaMoatedGrange · 23/10/2019 10:02

I have Brexit Fatigue Brain, but isn't Yellowhammer prep for a no deal Brexit, and that's now been ruled out?
